Job description

The Blended Assistant will perform all clerical and information technology functions for a provider, including primary responsibility for the operation of electronic medical records. The blended assistant's main goal is to increase the provider's efficiency and productivity. In the role of the CMA/RMA, the Blended Assistant will assist medical providers in the administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas within the scope of his/her training. Also, under the role of CMA/RMA the Blended Assistant will assist with the rooming of patients, obtaining vital signs, and administering injections in times when their assigned provider is out of the office or as needed to enhance the efficiency of office flow. The Blended Assistant will assist with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes. Performs general administrative duties following JCAHO, CLIA, NCQA, and government standards, and company policies and procedures. Functioning under the direct clinical supervision of a medical provider to promote optimum patient care and satisfaction while enhancing provider and department effectiveness. Serve as "communication liaison" between the physician and the patient interacts with patients and employees in a respectful manner consistent with the mission and values of CareSouth Carolina. The duties include the following:


  • Accompanies the provider to document information that is discussed during the visit in the EMR   including but not limited to checking two patient identifiers, HPI, Review of Systems, updating medication and problem lists.
  • Prepare and assist the provider with performing examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Assists the provider with ordering appropriate lab tests that the patient is due for. As well as entering orders for any medications, referrals, or tests that the provider deems necessary.
  • Assists the nursing staff with patient rooming, checking vital signs, and completing necessary documentation for the patient's visit including chief complaint, PHQ, learning needs assessment, and medication and allergy review.
  • Injections will be administered using the 7 patient administration rights (right patient, right time, right medication, right route, right dose, right reason, right documentation).
  • Maintains a clean environment for performing patient care.
  • Checks and responds to emails in a timely manner.
  • Reads and signs off documents in Power DMS in a timely manner.
  • Willingly perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

  • Must be proficient with EMR and able to provide detailed patient charting.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • The job requires providing direct patient care to patients of all ages.
  • Completion of a medical assisting education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or its successor, by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools or its successor, or by any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education, and which must include courses or components in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, medical laboratory techniques, and clinical experience, provided the clinical experience component may be satisfied through an individual's work experience with a health care employer.
  • Maintains current certification from a certifying body offering a certification program that is: approved by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Nursing; and is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or other accreditation body recognized by the Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Nursing.
  • Current BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
