Senior Structural Engineer - Discipline LeadAbout this position

Jackola Engineering & Architecture in Kalispell, Montana is seeking a talented and experienced licensed Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team and serve as our Structural Discipline Lead. This leadership role is responsible for advancing technical excellence, maintaining design and documentation standards, fostering professional growth within the structural team, and ensuring consistent, high-quality structural engineering practices across the company.

In addition to collaborating closely with our multi-disciplinary staff, clients, contractors, and vendors to bring exceptional designs to life, as the principal technical leader for the Structural group, you will guide discipline standards, mentor structural staff, and support individual and team development. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of structural engineering design, drafting, and documentation standards.
  • Monitor design sequencing, quality assurance processes, peer reviews, construction feedback, and emerging technologies to promote technical excellence.
  • Serve as the company’s primary technical resource and final authority for structural engineering matters and dispute resolution.
  • Identify mentorship, training, and continuing education opportunities to strengthen technical capabilities throughout the structural team.
  • Participate in the evaluation of structural engineering candidates and support leadership with assessments of technical competency and team fit.
  • Provide guidance on technical design and drafting challenges and help develop effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with other Discipline Leads to establish best practices and quality standards across disciplines.
  • Independently lead structural design staff throughout the project design and construction phases.
  • Work in a multi-discipline team environment to manage the development, design, and implementation of structural concepts, systems, drawings, and specifications.
  • Respond to contractors during the construction.
Requirements
  • Structural Professional Engineer (PE) License. (SE designation a plus, but not required)
  • At least 10+ years of experience post-graduation from an accredited University.
  • Extensive design experience with building structural systems using wood, steel, concrete, and masonry.
  • A strong understanding of building codes and value engineering practices.
  • Strong technical structural expertise in design, documentation, quality assurance, and cross-discipline coordination.
  • Outstanding organization, attentiveness to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize strategically and demonstrate flexibility to achieve long-range goals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, Autodesk Revit, and industry standard structural design software. (Preferably - Enercalc, RISA, and similar)
  • Proven leadership, mentoring, organizational, and delegation abilities.
