Summary
The Associate Laboratory Director will collaborate with the Director of Operations and any Assistant Technical
Laboratory Director(s) in addition to other laboratory leadership to supervise the development and
implementation of complex clinical molecular assays, introduction of new technologies, participate in clinical test
result case sign-out and have shared accountabilities for strategic and operational planning.[DF1.1][Be1.2] This
position requires a demonstrated experience in fostering organization culture of shared accountability and
improvement driven teamwork.
The position may function as the CLIA/CAP or technical section/laboratory director.
Job Description
The primary responsibility of the candidate will be to interpret and report clinical cases in molecular diagnostics
and assist with assay design, feasibility studies, and clinical validation consistent with all regulatory guidelines
(CAP, CLIA, FDA, etc.).
The ideal candidate will have experience in PCR for the evaluation of oncologic diseases, and constitutional
molecular genetic testing, including next-generation sequencing. The candidate will also have experience or
interest in development & validation of LDTs, implementing and monitoring QA & QC, and interpretation of
laboratory results in a clinical (hospital/ in-patient and clinics/ outpatient) setting. The candidate is also expected
to share responsibilities in lab management and to participate in research and departmental
educational programs, including but not limited to presentations and rotations for the technologists, pathology
residents, and fellows.
The candidate will attend conferences/meetings and present Sanford Medical Genetics Laboratory work as
appropriate.

  • Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences.

Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Medical Doctor (MD) degree required.
At least two years of experience post-ABMGG fellowship is required. Four years of experience is preferred. Must meet the regulatory requirements to full fill the CLIA/CAP genetics laboratory section director qualifications. Those who have worked as an acting laboratory director in high-complexity clinical molecular laboratory and have NYS Qualification in areas of responsibility for the laboratory will be given preference.
ABMGG board certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) is required.
Must maintain board certification as indicated.
