Job description

Orchard Keepers, est 2004, is a 30+ employee, ecologically based landscape company focused on Home Orchards, Edible Landscapes, and native/drought tolerant Gardens. We install all manner of landscape components consisting of hardscape, garden structures, irrigations systems, veggie beds, plants and more. We are based in Santa Cruz CA, providing services locally and San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties.

We are hiring for our home orchard/garden maintenance route leader position. Each day you will be working alone or alongside 1-2 others, tending to all manner of landscapes. Some sites are full of veggie beds and fruit trees, while some sites are primarily tending to CA native and drought tolerant landscapes. We pride ourselves in working hard and look to assist nature in the process of growing food and beauty at our sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Effective time management to execute on goals for each service
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures relating to job functions and company operations
  • Seeks guidance when encountering unfamiliar tasks or issues, according to established procedures
  • Communicate information internally and externally to support operations
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Weeding, blowing, trimming, pruning, planting, mulching and fertilizer applications
  • Organic pest prevention and control (OMRI materials only)
  • Irrigation: running diagnostics on irrigation systems to make sure systems are working properly, making repairs, and checks

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in garden veggie production and fine gardening- a bonus with at least 1 year of experience with fruit trees.
  • Valid CA driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to operate and maintain various tools and equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Punctual and dependable
  • Highly organized and able to work independently
  • Problem-solving: Demonstrated ability to assess situations and find solutions
  • Great customer service
  • Strong knowledge of basic landscaping techniques and plant care
  • Basic knowledge of different fruiting and growth habits of each type of fruit tree, organic vegetable cultivation, CA native plants and drought tolerant perennial gardens, organic soil care and home irrigation systems
