General Job Summary:

The Power Electronics/Motor Control Engineer shall be responsible for the development, design, integration and test of Aerospace motor drive/control systems, power electronics design & distribution systems, and generator control and rectification.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Applies knowledge of power electronics hardware design to sensorless motor control systems.
  • Applies knowledge of power electronics design for high power density/high frequency applications.
  • Designs and assists in the development of new electro-mechanical systems and prototypes.
  • Responsible for interpreting requirements, creating electrical schematics, performing electrical simulations, and delivering functional hardware.
  • Support the design and development of power control & distribution systems, energy storage, and electro-mechanical machinery.
  • Uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated experience with power electronics design and development.
  • Demonstrated experience with sensorless motor control design and development.
  • Engine/Component test support is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in integrating electrical systems, motors, generators, etc.
  • Demonstrated systems engineering approach to manage production or development programs.
  • Ability to work hands-on in a testing environment to develop power electronics and motor control systems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic small-company environment.
  • Ability to engage industry experts, apply and integrate knowledge of other related engineering areas or experts to own area of expertise.
  • Ability to capture requirements from customers and stakeholders and effectively estimate, communicate, and track integrated product team progress.
  • Ability to collaborate with program managers, customers, and team members to assist in developing products that meet requirements.
  • Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the assigned duties, including computer skills.
  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by company and government requirements.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with peers, supervisors, and public, including maintaining respect for others, and following company policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

  • BS/MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited school.
  • 5+ years' experience in power electronics design and development in gas turbomachinery or related industry.
  • 5+ years' experience in sensorless motor control theory and practical applications.
  • Altium or equivalent printed circuit board (PCB) design experience is required.
  • Experience with Powersim (PSIM) or equivalent system dynamics modeling and simulation tool.
  • Experience with ORCAD Capture, Pspice, and Matlab/Simulink.
  • Experience in developing test cases and test procedures.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Office/open cubicle environment.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, mouse, phones, rotating wrist, using tools/equipment).
