Certified Asthma & COPD Educator
Join Lee Health as a Certified Asthma & COPD Educator and play a vital role in helping patients breathe easier and live healthier lives. In this unique position, you'll serve as a clinical expert in asthma, COPD, and bronchiectasis management, empowering patients and their families through education, coaching, and personalized self-management strategies.
As a trusted resource for both Lee Health and the community, you'll work closely with patients across the continuum of care to identify barriers to treatment, connect them with valuable resources, and improve health outcomes. You'll also lead tobacco cessation counseling efforts and support community outreach initiatives focused on pulmonary health and disease prevention.
This role is ideal for a passionate Respiratory Therapist or Registered Nurse who enjoys patient education, relationship-building, and making a meaningful difference beyond the bedside. You'll have the opportunity to combine your clinical expertise with advocacy, wellness promotion, and community engagement while helping patients gain the knowledge and confidence needed to better manage their chronic respiratory conditions.
What You'll Bring:

The Certified Asthma & COPD Educator will be an expert in the field of Asthma, COPD and Bronchiectasis disease management, including teaching, educating, managing, monitoring, and providing self-management skills to the patient, and family/caregiver. The individual will be a resource to Lee Health and the community in the field of Asthma, COPD and Bronchiectasis disease management. The individual will work to identify patient and family barriers to the treatment and management of Asthma, COPD and Bronchiectasis, including providing resources to address social, economic, and financial barriers. This individual will provide tobacco cessation counseling for patients and in the community.
Requirements
Education: Bachelors' Degree in the prospective health care field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of twoyears of experience in the health care field, including in the care of pediatric and adult asthma and COPD patients.
Certifications: Certified Asthma Educator Specialist through the National Board for Respiratory Care required within six months from the date of hire. BLS Certification required. Completion and passing of the Pulmonary Disease Educator and Clinician Training on Tobacco Dependence for Respiratory Therapists courses through the American Association for Respiratory Care is required within three months from the date of hire.
License: Must have a license in one of the following health care fields: Respiratory Therapy (RRT) or Nursing (RN) through the Florida Department of Health.
Other: The individual must have excellent communication skills.
