Job description

Summary of Responsibilities:

At ATC, our work keeps the lights on for people and businesses in our community. As a Commissioning Engineer, you will play a critical role in bringing substation and transmission projects into service, ensuring equipment is properly installed, tested, and ready for safe energization.
This role is ideal for a technically minded person who thrives in the field, enjoys coordinating across teams, and takes pride in delivering high-quality, safe, and reliable outcomes. If you're energized by hands-on execution and complex infrastructure, this is your opportunity to make a direct impact on the grid.
This position will be assigned the territory of the southern half of Wisconsin, however, occasional travel throughout our footprint as needed to address emergent system needs is required.

Essential Responsibilities:

What You'll Do

  • Lead commissioning planning and execution, including project sequencing and schedule development
  • Coordinate with Operations and Construction teams to align outage planning and commissioning activities
  • Provide design feedback to ensure systems are ready for testing and energization
  • Manage and oversee commissioning contractors, including scope, performance, and deliverables
  • Direct testing and energization activities for substation and transmission assets
  • Oversee project closeout, ensuring documentation is accurate and complete
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, balancing timelines, priorities, and risks
  • Review contractor costs and support risk management and cost control efforts

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in substation engineering, commissioning, system protection, or construction
  • Working knowledge of transmission and substation systems
  • Strong planning, coordination, and execution skills
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing or overseeing contractors and vendors
  • Background in protective relaying and protection schemes
  • Familiarity with SCADA and communication systems
  • Experience working in a regulated utility or infrastructure environment

The targeted base pay for this position is $89,500 to $104,400 annually.* Base pay is one component of our comprehensive total rewards package which includes an annual incentive bonus, employer-sponsored pension plan, 401(k) match, HSA contribution, life & disability insurance, health care benefits, generous time off plans, flexible work arrangements, and much more.

*The pay range is a general guideline. Employment offers are evaluated individually and consider qualifications, experience, academic achievements, internal equity, and business needs.
