Job description

Senior 5-Axis CNC Programmer / Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Sarasota, Florida

Position Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Compensation:$90,000-$145,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus bonus potential

Relocation Assistance: Available for the right candidate

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced 5-Axis CNC Programmer / Manufacturing Engineer to join an advanced precision manufacturing operation in Sarasota, Florida.

This is a senior-level, hands-on position for a true 5-axis professional who can independently take a complex component from engineering drawing through programming, setup, prove-out, and successful production.

This is not an entry-level or developmental position. We need an experienced programmer who has already worked extensively with true simultaneous/continuous 5-axis machining and can step into a sophisticated manufacturing environment with minimal training.

The ideal candidate will be capable of developing an efficient machining strategy, creating the program, selecting tooling and workholding, proving out the process, troubleshooting issues, and working alongside CNC operators to successfully transition the established job to production.

Once a job is running successfully, this individual should be able to train and support the operator and then move on to programming and developing the next complex component.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop CNC programs for complex precision components using true simultaneous 5-axis machining
  • Take new jobs from engineering drawing/model through complete manufacturing process development
  • Determine machining strategy, operation sequence, tooling, feeds, speeds, workholding, and fixturing requirements
  • Create, modify, optimize, and troubleshoot complex CNC programs
  • Perform machine setup and hands-on program prove-out
  • Identify and correct programming, tooling, setup, dimensional, and machining issues
  • Optimize programs for quality, repeatability, cycle time, tool life, and production efficiency
  • Work directly with CNC operators during initial production runs
  • Train operators on established processes so successfully proven jobs can transition into production
  • Work closely with engineering, quality, and manufacturing personnel to resolve technical issues
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, models, tolerances, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications
  • Support first-article production and make necessary program/process adjustments
  • Maintain exceptionally high standards for precision, quality, and process control
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve machining methods and manufacturing efficiency
Required Experience
  • Significant professional experience programming and machining on true 5-axis CNC equipment
  • Demonstrated experience with simultaneous/continuous 5-axis machining
  • Ability to independently take a complex part from print/model through programming, setup, prove-out, and production
  • Strong CNC programming and CAM experience
  • Advanced understanding of machining strategies, tooling, workholding, feeds and speeds, and manufacturing processes
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
  • Experience machining complex, close-tolerance components
  • Ability to troubleshoot programs and machining processes directly at the machine
  • Ability to work collaboratively with operators and effectively transfer established jobs into production
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
5-Axis Experience Requirement

Candidates must have experience with true simultaneous 5-axis machining.

Experience limited primarily to 3+2 positional/indexed machining or 4+1 machining does not meet the primary requirement for this position.

We are specifically seeking candidates who have programmed equipment where multiple axes operate simultaneously to produce complex geometries.

Experience may include sophisticated 5-axis platforms such as:

  • DMG MORI NTX
  • GROB
  • Mazak Integrex
  • Makino
  • HAAS 5-Axis
  • Hermle
  • Okuma Multus
  • Similar true 5-axis or multi-tasking CNC platforms

Direct experience with DMG MORI NTX and/or GROB equipment is highly desirable, but candidates with substantial true 5-axis experience on comparable platforms are strongly encouraged to apply.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is more than someone who can modify an existing CNC program.

We are looking for an experienced manufacturing professional who can be handed a complex drawing or model and confidently determine:

How are we going to manufacture this part?

From there, this individual should have the technical ability and practical machining experience to develop the process, program it, prove it out, get it running correctly, and ultimately transfer a stable and repeatable process to the production team.

This position is particularly well suited for a senior programmer, programmer/machinist, manufacturing engineer, or applications-oriented CNC professional who enjoys solving difficult machining challenges and working on sophisticated, high-profile precision components.

Compensation & Relocation

This is a critical technical position, and compensation is designed to attract an experienced 5-axis professional.

Base salary may reach approximately $145,000 or more depending on experience and qualifications, with additional bonus potential.

Candidates do not need to currently reside in Florida. Relocation assistance is available for a highly qualified candidate interested in relocating to the Sarasota, Florida area.

You should be proficient in:

  • Equipment Troubleshooting
  • CNC Programming
  • CNC Machine Installation
  • G-Code
  • M-Code
  • CNC Machine Setup & Changeover
  • Precision Measurement & Hand Metrology
  • Advanced Inspection & Gauge Measurement
