Job description

Job Title: CNC Lathe Operator – 1st or 2nd Shift

Job Description

This role operates CNC lathes in a small job-shop environment, producing high-precision components for a growing portfolio of long-term contracts. You will set up, run, and inspect parts on CNC lathe equipment, using blueprints and precision measuring tools to ensure parts meet tight tolerances and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes to produce high-precision parts according to blueprints and job specifications.
  • Work with CNC lathe equipment, ideally including Okuma, Miyano, or Brothers machines, to complete production runs efficiently and accurately.
  • Interpret and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to perform in-process and final inspections of parts.
  • Monitor machine operations, make necessary offsets and adjustments, and ensure parts consistently meet dimensional and quality requirements.
  • Perform basic machine troubleshooting, including identifying and correcting issues related to tooling, feeds, speeds, and part quality.
  • Conduct routine inspection and documentation of parts to support quality standards and traceability requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around the CNC lathes, following shop safety procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, meet production schedules, and support continuous improvement.
  • Support long-term production stability by maintaining high standards of precision, reliability, and throughput on assigned machines.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of CNC lathe operation experience.
  • Experience operating CNC lathes, ideally with Okuma, Miyano, or Brothers machines.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on CNC lathe operating experience in a production or job-shop environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges, for part inspection.
  • Strong machining and inspection skills with a focus on high-precision work.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc controls or similar CNC control systems.
  • Ability to perform basic machine adjustments and offsets to maintain part quality.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, consistent parts.
  • Ability to work independently on 2nd shift while meeting quality and production expectations.
