Job description

Job Title: CNC Programmer Machinist
Job Description

This role combines high-level CNC programming with hands-on machining in a true job shop environment that supports the mechanical seals and pump industry. You will program complex parts using Esprit, support 5-axis CNC operations on the shop floor, and contribute to both manual machining and quality control inspection as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Program CNC machines using Esprit CAM software on a laptop to produce small to medium-sized components for mechanical seals and related applications.
  • Develop, edit, and optimize G and M code programs for 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills and lathes, including mill-turn equipment.
  • Set up and support the operation of 5-axis CNC machines, including Okuma and similar controls, ensuring accurate and efficient production.
  • Collaborate closely with machinists on the shop floor to troubleshoot machining issues, adjust programs, and improve cycle times and part quality.
  • Assist with manual machining on manual mills and lathes when needed to support production and prototype work.
  • Perform or support quality control inspections, verifying that parts meet tight tolerances, including thin-wall components with close ID and OD dimensions.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to ensure correct dimensions, finishes, and tolerances.
  • Program and machine parts primarily from 316 stainless steel, as well as carbon steel, Inconel, titanium, and other exotic materials.
  • Communicate effectively with team members using tools such as Microsoft Teams to coordinate work, clarify requirements, and resolve issues.
  • Work autonomously to prioritize tasks, manage workloads, and ensure production schedules are met in a job shop environment where part types can vary widely.
  • Support both first and second shift machining needs by staying later when required to assist with programming or setup challenges.
  • Contribute to maintaining an organized, process-driven shop by following established procedures and recommending improvements where appropriate.
Essential Skills
  • 10+ years of CNC programming experience in a job shop environment.
  • Proficiency with Esprit CAM software for CNC programming.
  • Hands-on experience with 5-axis CNC machines, including both mills and lathes, and mill-turn equipment.
  • Experience working with Okuma or similar CNC controls.
  • Strong understanding and practical use of G and M codes.
  • Proficiency in CNC lathe programming and CNC mill programming, including 3-axis and 5-axis operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Experience machining on vertical mills and horizontal lathes.
  • Strong communication skills, including the use of Microsoft Teams for collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a self-driven manner in a production environment.
  • Hands-on machining experience with materials such as 316 stainless steel, carbon steel, Inconel, titanium, and other exotic alloys.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with additional CAM software such as Mastercam.
  • Experience with Okuma Multus or similar multi-function mill-turn machines.
  • Manual mill and manual lathe experience.
  • Mill-turn machining experience beyond basic 3-axis and 5-axis operations.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical seals industry and related components.
  • Comfort working in a true job shop environment where part types and requirements frequently change.
