Salary Range: $120,499-$143,516, commensurate with experience
About This Role
Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Director of Writing and Editing on its Communications team. This person will drive the successful planning and execution of day-to-day and long-term writing projects and ensure that written materials within the department and across the organization are streamlined, on message, and impactful.
The ideal candidate will be a gifted writer and natural storyteller; an excellent editor who knows the power of brevity in communications; a multi-tasker who can juggle multiple assignments and meet overlapping deadlines; and a team-oriented communicator who can partner with others to develop the most effective narratives that will break through in a crowded media environment.
This position reports to the Managing Director of Communications.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Draft communications materials, including press releases, polling memos, messaging documents, fact sheets, talking points, quotes, and other desired written content quickly and on tight deadlines.
  • Review and edit communications materials for content, spelling, style, format, and grammar.
  • Ensure content is inclusive and accessible for diverse audiences, including adherence to best practices for cultural competency and accessibility.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Editorial Projects, build and maintain a content calendar for outbound communications materials, and coordinate with other teams across Climate Power.
  • Coordinate with Climate Power's research team to perform research and fact-checking, and ensure outward-facing products have a comms angle.
  • Provide guidance to other staff members on writing conventions and style.
  • Work with the Director of Editorial Projects and the full team to write and edit communications materials.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as need and capacity dictates.
Essential Qualifications
  • 5 years of relevant prior work experience in communications and editing.
  • 2 years of people and/or project management experience; demonstrated success in leading departments and diverse teams and managing complex projects.
  • Must be able to work independently, and collaboratively with diverse groups of people, communities, and partners.
  • Strong organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Adept at long-form and short-form writing.
  • Excellent grasp of grammar and spelling.
  • Proven research and fact-checking skills.
  • Proactive and energetic disposition.
  • A keen eye for detail and quality writing.
  • Organized and meticulous about their work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workplace.

Location & Hours of Operations
Climate Power is a remote-first organization based in Washington, DC. Occasional travel is required as needed, typically 3-4 times per year.

An ideal start date would be before or by August 1, 2026.
Our interview process generally involves 2 rounds of interviews, ranging in length from 30-60 minutes. All interviews will be conducted via Google Meet or Zoom. Successful candidates that move forward in the hiring process, will be invited to complete a skills assessment activity (for which they will receive payment) and will undergo a vetting process, including reference and background check.
