POSITION SUMMARY:
The Tower Technician works with cell phone towers to provide wireless communications services. A Tower Technician may assist in setting support infrastructure to build towers from the ground up. They also conduct routine maintenance while also installing more delicate equipment antennas, lighting at the top of the towers which requires additional education, experience, and training. When at the telecom job sites, the focus is always on efficiency, quality, and safety.
Responsibilities and Duties:
As a member of our growing team, many of the duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Ability to successfully perform tasks of a Tower Technician I and II
  • Responsible for training and mentoring of Tower Technicians I and II
  • Successful installation of all telecom equipment without direct supervision
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for integration tasks
  • Demonstrates an understanding of project time allotment as it compares to project budget
  • Assist/substitute for Crew Leader when necessary
  • Ability to conduct a VPW
  • Collect close out package information
  • Additional functions:
    • Grounding
    • Installation of antennas
    • Antenna mounts, microwaves, coax lines, TMA's, RF jumpers, remote electrical down-tilts
    • Sector frames, tower steel, platforms
    • Coax connectors: Andrew, PPC
    • Site audits and maintenance tasks
  • Troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance

Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Ability to work with advanced hand/power tools and alignment tools
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard best practices
  • Ability to read RFDs and CDs
  • Basic computer skills
  • 6 months cell site construction experience installing various carriers
  • Must be RF Awareness, CPR/FIRST AID, OSHA 10, Rigging, Comtrain (or equivalent) certified
  • Must be able to travel away from home for 3 - 6 weeks at a time
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record
  • Must have hand tools, including impact drill, full climbing gear, boots, work clothes, PPE

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to climb and work on the towers, poles, buildings (no fear of heights)
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 70 pounds
  • Must be able to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather (snow, rain, heat, high winds, etc.), long hours and variety of shifts (including night work)
  • Must be able to pass ongoing drug screen testing

Authority:
  • Act as a back up to Crew Leader
  • Identify and report safety hazards, incidents, and accidents
  • Train Tower Technicians I and II
