Job description

Premier Ambulance has been a trusted leader in ambulance transportation for over 17 years, serving markets in Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and Riverside counties. We are dedicated to providing high-quality emergency medical services, including Advanced Life Support, Basic Life Support and Specialty Care Transportation, to a variety of clients including hospitals, nursing homes, and managed care organizations.


We are seeking a detailed-oriented and experienced Medical Billing Supervisor to join our team. The Medical Billing Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the billing operations for our ambulance services, ensuring accurate submission of claims, managing accounts receivable, and maintaining compliance with knowledge of industry standards and insurance regulations. This role requires a candidate with knowledge of ambulance billing practices, insurance requirements, and strong organizational skills.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the medical billing team, ensuring accurate and timely billing for all ambulance services rendered.
  • Review and process claims for emergency and non-emergency ambulance transports, ensuring proper coding and compliance with payer guidelines.
  • Work closely with insurance companies, and other payers to resolve denied claims, billing disputes, and payments discrepancies.
  • Lead the resolution of complex billing issues related to ambulance transportation services, including coding errors, late payments, underpaid and unpaid claims.
  • Monitor and track accounts receivable, ensuring payments are collected in a timely manner and outstanding issues are addressed.   
  • Ensure all billing processes comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards for emergency medical services.
  • Provide training and guidance to the billing team, focusing on the nuances of ambulance billing and coding, including transport levels and modifiers.
  • Generate and analyze reports to track departmental performance and identify areas for process improvement.  
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in ambulance billing regulations and industry standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Associates degree in Healthcare Administration, Medical Billing, or a related field preferred. 
  • In-depth knowledge of ambulance coding (HCPCS, ICD-10), billing procedures, and insurance requirements.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring a team of medical billing specialist.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy.  
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with insurance companies, patients and team members.
