Job description

Mommy's Helper/Family Assistant

A stay-at-home mother is seeking an experienced, collaborative Mommy's Helper/Family Assistant to provide support with childcare and the day-to-day running of the home. The family has a four-month-old baby and a three-year-old son who attends school full-time.

The family's longtime nanny and household helper, who has been with them for 3.5 years and has become an important part of the family, is unexpectedly returning home for a while. The family is looking for temporary support while they determine whether she will ultimately be able to return. The hope is to find someone who can become a long-term member of the household if the position becomes permanent. They will know within 4-5 months if it will be permanent, but just need help for the time being.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working alongside a parent and sees themselves as a true extra set of hands. The family is looking for someone who can naturally jump in with whatever needs to be done, from preparing the children for school to cooking, organizing, laundry, and caring for the baby.

Schedule:

  • MondayThursday, 7:00am3:30pm
  • Friday, 8:00am12:00pm
  • Approximately 35 hours per week
  • Family is open to some flexibility with the schedule
  • ASAP start date
  • Family anticipates knowing within the next 45 months whether the position will become permanent

Responsibilities:

  • Providing support with the family's four-month-old baby throughout the day
  • Supporting infant development and age-appropriate activities, including tummy time and developmental milestones
  • Helping with bottle introduction and feeding routines
  • Assisting with the morning routine for the three-year-old before school
  • Preparing breakfast and packing lunch
  • Helping with after-school needs and routines
  • Cooking meals for the family
  • General household cleaning and tidying
  • Laundry and household organization
  • Keeping the home running smoothly and helping with whatever needs to be done throughout the day
  • Assisting the mother with day-to-day family needs

Qualifications:

  • French-speaking strongly preferred
  • Someone who enjoys becoming a true extra set of hands for a busy family
  • Helping maintain a French-language environment for the three-year-old if possible

Requirements:

  • Previous professional nanny, mother's helper, or family assistant experience
  • Strong infant experience and understanding of developmental milestones
  • Knowledge of infant feeding, bottle introduction, and age-appropriate activities
  • Warm, nurturing, and patient personality
  • Comfortable working alongside a stay-at-home mother and being part of a collaborative partnership
  • Proactive and willing to jump in without needing to be directed for every task
  • Strong cooking, cleaning, and organizational skills
  • Comfortable with cats; family has 2.
