What is a freight staff?

Freight staff are workers responsible for handling, moving, and managing the shipment of goods by various modes of transport such as trucks, trains, ships, or planes. Their duties often include loading and unloading cargo, verifying shipment details, preparing documentation, and ensuring that goods are safely and efficiently transported to their destinations. Freight staff may work in warehouses, ports, distribution centers, or transportation companies. They play a crucial role in the supply chain by ensuring goods reach customers on time and in good condition.

How does a freight staff member typically coordinate with other departments to ensure timely shipments?

Freight Staff regularly collaborate with warehouse teams, inventory managers, and logistics coordinators to ensure that shipments are processed accurately and dispatched on schedule. This involves clear communication about shipment priorities, resolving discrepancies in documentation, and updating digital systems to reflect real-time status. Successful Freight Staff members are proactive in flagging potential delays and work closely with others to troubleshoot issues, ensuring smooth workflow and timely deliveries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as freight staff, and why are they important?

To thrive as Freight Staff, you need a solid understanding of inventory management, logistics processes, and basic math skills, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), barcode scanners, and forklifts—sometimes requiring certification—is typically expected. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These abilities ensure efficient, accurate handling of goods and smooth coordination within fast-paced logistics environments.

Senior Freight Broker

The Opportunity:

Company is hiring a Senior Freight Broker to join the team. This is a hunting role for a proven broker who closes meaningful business fast, builds a book that compounds, and refuses to lose.

We are looking for experienced freight brokers who are interested in unlimited upside potential and are eager to put in the time and effort needed to take their business to the next level. Company Team Members enjoy a high energy and collaborative atmosphere where career development and earning potential is limitless.

If you are earning less commission % than you deserve and having a ceiling on your earnings, company would love to hear from you.

Who We Are:

Company is a rapidly growing freight brokerage founded by experienced entrepreneurs and logistics professionals. Our sales force consists of individual brokers utilizing our industry-leading software, carrier network, and financial backing to develop and maintain their book of business.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintain top-tier prospecting activity: calls, meetings, and pipeline coverage that match a producer who wins

  • Meet prospects face-to-face

  • Develop your own team of A-players once your volume justifies the expense of supporting your daily operations

Who You Are:

  • You have a book of business (current/previous shipping clients)

  • You have 2-7 years of experience in freight brokering and/or freight sales

  • You sell on value instead of price. You can name customers who chose you over a cheaper competitor and tell us why

  • You are fluent across modes: FTL (dry van, reefer, flatbed), partial, small truckload (sprinter, box truck), and LTL

  • You can quote and win profitable freight, and protect margin without losing the relationship

  • You operate with urgency. You return calls fast, follow up faster, and never let a deal sit because you got busy

  • You want to be measured. You want a scoreboard. You want to win

What We Offer:

  • Opportunity for stock option grants based on performance

  • Comprehensive healthcare plan

  • Unlimited paid vacation

  • Carrier Sales and Account Management teams to assist you

  • 24/7 after-hours staff to assist with weekend and after-hours freight
