Job description

LOGISTICS ANALYST

Position Objective

  • Inquire about contract freight rates, review, and process freight requests in FIS. 
  • Track rail shipments, follow up on delays, and submit service logs.
  • Review and process freight abnormal invoices in a timely manner.
  • Provide system and analytical support for logistics, distribution, and transportation initiatives.
  • Assist with various departmental functions as needed.

Major Areas of Accountability

  • Inquire with Class 1 rail carriers for freight rates to new potential customers, providing the business units with data for analysis.
  • Review and process rail freight requests (FIS) and ensure timely setup for shipments.
  • Evaluate contract and spot rate proposals for rail lanes to optimize transportation costs for contract renewal.
  • Investigate carrier abnormal invoices and monitor accounts to maintain strong carrier relationships and company credit.
  • Track and trace rail shipments, resolve delays, and submit service/shutdown logs to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Submit and track freight claims with railroad companies to reduce potential financial losses.
  • Provide support and backup to the rail/fleet team during absences, ensuring continuity of operations.
  • Assist with special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business or supply chain preferred)
  • Preferably, 4 years of experience in transportation or logistics, including:
    • Rail and truck operations
    • Freight rate analysis
    • Knowledge of railcar billing, diversion, and reshipment processes
  • Proficient in sorting, analyzing, and managing data across multiple spreadsheets and scenarios.
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to track open items and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Good analytical, verbal and written skills. Must have working knowledge of MS Office, must be proficient in Excel
  • Up to 5% travel is required
