What does a freight planner do?

A Freight Planner is responsible for coordinating the movement of goods and materials by arranging the most efficient and cost-effective transportation methods. They analyze shipment requirements, plan delivery schedules, and work closely with carriers, suppliers, and customers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries. Freight Planners also monitor logistics operations, resolve any transportation issues, and help optimize supply chain processes. Their role is crucial for minimizing delays, reducing costs, and improving overall logistics efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freight planner?

To thrive as a Freight Planner, you need strong analytical skills, logistical knowledge, and experience with supply chain management, often supported by a degree in logistics or business. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), route optimization software, and industry regulations is typically required.
