Description
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing all outbound shipments, securing competitive freight rates, and ensuring on time delivery of customer orders. This role works closely with Purchasing to coordinate incoming materials and maintain accurate visibility of supply flow. The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor and their team report directly to this position. The Logistics Coordinator reports directly to the Operations Manager and plays a key role in supporting production flow, cost control, and customer satisfaction. Additional responsibilities include preparing travelers and data plates for production orders, maintaining logistics documentation, and tracking delivery performance metrics.
Requirements
Logistics & Freight Management
  • Source, compare, and negotiate freight rates to ensure cost effective shipping.
  • Schedule and coordinate all outbound shipments to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Maintain relationships with carriers, brokers, and logistics partners.
  • Monitor transit status and proactively resolve delays or exceptions.

Inbound Material Coordination
  • Communicate daily with Purchasing regarding incoming materials, delivery dates, and shortages.
  • Track inbound shipments and ensure receiving is prepared for arrival.
  • Support Purchasing with vendor follow ups related to delivery performance.

Shipping & Receiving Oversight
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Shipping & Receiving Supervisor and their team.
  • Ensure accurate and timely loading, unloading, staging, and documentation of materials.
  • Maintain compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and quality requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement in warehouse flow, accuracy, and efficiency.

Documentation & Production Support
  • Create travelers and data plates for production orders.
  • Ensure that all shipping paperwork, BOLs, packing lists, and labels are accurate and complete.
  • Maintain organized records of shipments, freight costs, and delivery performance.

Performance Tracking & Reporting
  • Track and report on time delivery (OTD) performance and freight cost trends.
  • Identify root causes of late deliveries and collaborate with departments to improve results.
  • Provide weekly and monthly logistics metrics to the Operations Manager.

Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in logistics, shipping/receiving, or supply chain coordination.
  • Strong understanding of freight carriers, LTL/FTL shipping, and rate negotiation.
  • Experience working with production, purchasing, or warehouse operations.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across multiple departments.
  • Ability to lead and support a small team in a fast paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in manufacturing or metal fabrication environments.
  • Familiarity with travelers, job routing, or production documentation.
  • Knowledge of on time delivery metrics and logistics reporting.
