Head of Air & Ocean Freight – Houston, TX

Global Freight Forwarding and Logistics | Full P&L Ownership | Strategic U.S. Gateway

Overview

A global freight forwarding group with strong European roots and an expanding U.S. platform is seeking a high-caliber Station Manager to lead its Houston operation. This is not a maintenance role. It is a full-scope leadership position with direct accountability for air and ocean freight performance, P&L delivery, operational control, and team scaling.

The Houston station serves as a strategic U.S. gateway, handling complex international shipments tied to energy, industrial, and project verticals. The right candidate will be both commercially aggressive and operationally disciplined, with the mandate to grow volume, margin, and organizational footprint.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop cross-functional teams across Air Export, Air Import, Ocean Import, and Ocean Export
  • Own full P&L responsibility for the Houston station with direct reporting to regional leadership
  • Manage door-to-door freight execution including routing, pricing, compliance, and delivery performance
  • Drive retention and expansion of key client relationships across high-value verticals including Oil & Gas, Industrial Projects, Chemicals, and Automotive
  • Negotiate directly with air and ocean carriers to secure competitive rates and space allocation
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with TSA, FMC, CBP, and internal audit standards
  • Report on financial, operational, and customer performance metrics with full KPI ownership
  • Partner with commercial teams on RFQs, client onboarding, and strategic trade lane development
  • Act as the regional lead for gateway optimization and cross-functional process alignment

Required Experience

  • 8+ years in international freight forwarding with a focus on air and ocean services
  • 3+ years in a branch or station leadership role with full operational and commercial control
  • Proven ability to manage P&L and drive sustained GP growth
  • Expertise in U.S. customs procedures, export control, TSA compliance, and FMC regulation
  • Hands-on experience with CargoWise or a comparable TMS
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to drive accountability at all levels
  • Track record of transforming station-level performance through disciplined execution

What’s on the Table

  • Strategic command of a national gateway with visibility at the executive level
  • Autonomy to build, shape, and scale the Houston station to flagship status
  • Direct influence on regional growth and trade lane development strategy
  • Base salary of $170,000+ plus station bonus and full benefits
  • Privately held organization with global reach and zero red tape
