We are looking for a Commercial and Operations Branch Manager with the potential to develop our Detroit Midwest Branch and be responsible for P/L. The ideal candidate is highly qualified, conscientious, and finds a sense of purpose and pride in their work. The position requires strong sales techniques, operational knowledge, math skills, and solid knowledge of domestic and international geography. This role manages multiple team members located in the Detroit office and some working remotely. You will need to manage your own work efficiently, work well under pressure, and be able to meet deadlines in a time-sensitive environment, along with the discretion to work with confidential documents and information. The ideal candidate must be able to facilitate difficult conversations and foster strong communication within the team as well as internal and external customers.
Overtime work and some travel may be required at times depending on client development, workload, and staffing.
Requirements
  • College Degree
  • Fluency in a Foreign Language
  • Minimum 2 years of Sales Manager experience in the Freight Forwarding industry
  • Minimum 3 years of Operations Supervisor/Team lead experience in the Freight Forwarding industry
  • Knowledge about Customs Brokerage
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (including Office 365, SharePoint, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Responsibilities
  • Negotiate rates with Clients, agents, vendors, and carriers.
  • Assist in the preparation of Request for Quote (RFQ) as required by existing customers or new business opportunities.
  • Conduct annual personnel reviews for team members.
  • Work closely with the Managing Director, National Operations Manager, and President of our Company to ensure strategic objectives are clearly understood and cascaded to the rest of the team as appropriate.
  • Conduct meetings with the team and agents, and audit files to ensure challenges are being addressed and solved in a timely manner and compliance is being followed on all levels.
  • Become an SME with internal/external reporting tools and other technology as appropriate.
  • General supervision of team members handling all Import shipments (Air and Ocean) to ensure all tasks are completed correctly and on time.
  • Assist and step in on actual workloads for team members when needed.
  • Work your own Sales pipeline/Target account list and implement your own accounts.
  • Perform plus interaction with staff to secure proper monthly closings on time.
  • Responsible for P/L of the Detroit Branch.
  • Coordinate with client, shipper, booking agent, and all carriers for the smooth process of the shipment to avoid and prevent any problems from arising.
  • Understanding the quoting requirements and regulations on air, ocean, or domestic freight moves to ensure proper profitability and compliance.
  • Complete the process of shipment which includes choosing routing, quoting, booking, Open files, AMS and ISF filing, CBP Entry filing, document review, and data quality requirements.
  • Strong communication with clients and all involved parties.
  • Tracking freight via email, phone, and internet to ensure on-time arrival and delivery.
  • Updating information in our GTRAC system for the clients including uploading related documentation and billing.
  • Updating client profiles and file milestones, final mile and delivery to client.
  • Book, review, and audit payables and final Profit and Loss on the file to ensure accuracy as it relates to the shipment.
  • Customer Service responsibilities include maintaining communication with clients, vendors, shippers, and all involved carriers throughout the process and choosing the appropriate routing that meets the client's need and rates quoted.
  • Generate, maintain, and manage reports designed to provide analytical support to specified users or clients. Provide administrative support to other staff members as needed.
  • Strong communication and organization skills and ability to manage high volume of emails with accuracy
  • Special projects as assigned.
