Responsibilities
Job Summary: The Accountant I - Freight Accounting will support accounting and financial analysis related to freight allocation, procurement, and supply chain operations. . Reviews, prepares, and reconciles financial statements and transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles. Analyzes financial and accounting data and processes to identify trends, variances and opportunities for improvement. As part of the Accounting & Finance department, performs various tasks, such as month-end closing, audit preparation and financial planning. Assists with ad-hoc projects and initiatives as needed. Requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail and proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
โ€ข Accounting:
  • Develop / modify segments of an accounting system, including associated accounts, records, reports, and controls
  • Maintain detailed financial and operational records supporting costing methodologies, allocations, and audit requirements.
  • Participate in cross-functional supply chain, accounting, and finance initiatives supporting cost transparency and process standardization.
  • Prepare and post journal entries including accruals, deferrals and reclassifications
  • Perform regular reconciliations of accounts to ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Prepare documentation and provide support during internal and external audits
  • Build quality relationships by providing reports, graphs, and charts to illustrate and communicate key business results
  • Establish / maintain accurate detailed financial records
  • Document and communicate changes to assigned accounting processes
  • Develop process / system expertise
  • May provide guidance for lower-level Partners

โ€ข Analytics:
  • Analyze financial data including revenue, expenses, and cost structures to identify trends, variances and opportunities for improvement
  • Apply experiential knowledge of business area to provide credible, action-oriented insights and recommendations to management and stakeholders to support decision making
  • Learn more complex processes and systems with coaching, including identifying potential errors and resolutions
  • Identify inefficiencies in accounting processes and proposes improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency
  • Support ad hoc projects that assist in decision-making
  • Develop analytical reporting and dashboards that communicate freight, costing, and operational performance metrics to stakeholders.
  • Analyze transportation, procurement, inventory, and accounting data to identify cost drivers, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Identify automation opportunities using Excel, Power Query, Power BI, and data analytics tools to improve reporting efficiency and financial controls.

Qualifications & Key Requirements:
Work Experience:
  • 2+ years Experience in H-E-B accounting roles - Required
  • 4+ years Broad-based accounting functions - Required
