Job description

Schedule: Typically 1 hour per week for 10 weeks (after school); exact days/times vary by assignment
Location: On-site at a partner school; varies by assignment
Start Date: Rolling openings based on school schedules

Position Overview
Concorde Education is seeking an engaging, student-centered Cosmetology Instructor to facilitate a short-format after-school enrichment course introducing students to cosmetology pathways, including nail technology, hairdressing, and makeup artistry. This course is designed as a school-appropriate exploration of foundational techniques, professionalism, and industry standards, emphasizing hygiene, safety, and respectful client communication.

This is an enrichment course and is not a licensure program. Instruction should remain non-invasive and aligned with site policies, with an emphasis on safe, simulated practice and age-appropriate tools and products. The instructor will deliver instruction across a typical 10-week cycle, with pacing adapted to student needs and site logistics.

What You Will Teach
Students will explore foundational cosmetology knowledge and hands-on skills across three core areas: nail care basics, introductory hairstyling techniques, and makeup fundamentals. Students will learn about sanitation protocols, tool safety, professional expectations, and career pathways while building creative confidence through guided practice and design challenges.

Major Topics Can Include

  • Professionalism and salon expectations (ethics, boundaries, respectful conduct)
  • Hygiene, sanitation, and safety standards (tool disinfection routines, workspace cleanliness)
  • Client communication basics (consultation questions, active listening, service explanations)
  • Nail technology fundamentals (school-appropriate)
  • Nail anatomy and terminology
  • Nail shaping, filing technique, cuticle care concepts
  • Introductory nail art and design planning (color, pattern, theme)
  • Hairdressing fundamentals (school-appropriate)
  • Hair structure and healthy hair habits
  • Hair types and textures; inclusive hair care considerations
  • Sectioning, brush control, blow-drying basics (as permitted)
  • Braiding, ponytails, and basic updos
  • Makeup fundamentals (school-appropriate)
  • Skin care basics and hygiene (brush/sponge sanitation, avoiding cross-contamination)
  • Color theory and shade selection (undertones, contrast, balance)
  • Introductory application techniques (natural looks, stage/photo concepts as appropriate)
  • Product knowledge and safe use (expiration awareness, patch-test concepts, site rules)
  • Industry overview and pathways
  • Training and licensing overview (high-level, informational)
  • Roles and careers in cosmetology and related fields (salon, freelance, retail, education)
  • Portfolio development and showcasing work appropriately

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a 10-session course with clear objectives and engaging, hands-on instruction
  • Maintain strict hygiene and safety routines aligned with school expectations and site policies
  • Provide age-appropriate demonstrations and scaffolded practice across nails, hair, and makeup
  • Differentiate instruction for varying skill levels and support student confidence and creativity
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, supportive learning environment and model professional behavior
  • Communicate professionally with site staff and Concorde program contacts regarding attendance and session completion tracking
  • Adapt pacing and activities as needed while maintaining intended course outcomes

Qualifications (Required)

  • Minimum of 60 college credits (or Associate degree in progress/completed)
  • Content knowledge and practical experience in one or more areas: nail technology, hairdressing, makeup artistry, cosmetology, or closely related fields
  • Experience working with school-age students in structured settings (school, camp, after-school, tutoring, youth programs)
  • Strong facilitation skills, clear communication, and comfort managing hands-on activities
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional; able to follow school policies and program boundaries
  • Ability to implement safety-first routines, including sanitation protocols and appropriate material handling
