TECHNOLOGY director


Full Time | On-Site


Overview


West Edge is a creative agency at the intersection of marketing, technology, and experience. We’re seeking a Technical Director to lead the agency’s technical strategy, infrastructure, and execution across web, digital, and immersive platforms. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight, ensuring systems are stable, scalable, and future-ready while supporting the agency’s growth in web, AI, and XR capabilities.


Core Responsibilities


Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and maintain the agency’s overall technology roadmap.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new tools, platforms, and technologies.
  • Ensure the agency’s technology stack supports creative innovation and operational efficiency.
  • Bridge communication between creative, development, and operations to align goals and timelines.


Web & Digital Operations

  • Oversee all web development operations across 100+ client sites.
  • Ensure stability, uptime, scalability, and security of hosting environments (WordPress/WP Engine).
  • Manage core, theme, and plugin updates, QA, and deployment workflows.
  • Standardize processes for builds, testing, and documentation across projects.
  • Support API integrations, automation, and data interoperability between client and internal systems.


Infrastructure & Security

  • Oversee company network, wifi, and integrated systems to ensure uptime and efficiency
  • Maintain technical infrastructure, including DNS, SSL, backups, and hosting relationships.
  • Implement and monitor security best practices for both client and internal systems.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and credential hygiene across all platforms.
  • Establish and enforce Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for uptime, response times, and maintenance.
  • Lead system integrations between Workamajig, Google Workspace, and other core platforms.
  • Automate workflows to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and increase department visibility 
  • Oversee data flow, backups, and reporting between systems for business intelligence 


Team Development & Vendor Management

  • Mentor and manage developers, freelancers, and technical partners.
  • Maintain documentation, SOPs, and training resources for internal use.
  • Build and maintain a roster of trusted technical vendors and partners.
  • Ensure cross-functional collaboration between development, design, and client success teams.


Innovation & Future Tech

  • Research, test, and recommend emerging technologies in AI, AR/XR, and automation.
  • Collaborate with creative teams to bring interactive and immersive ideas to life.
  • Translate R&D prototypes into scalable production-ready solutions.
  • Stay ahead of digital trends, ensuring the agency remains a leader in creative technology.


Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in digital or creative agency environments.
  • Proven leadership in technical strategy, web operations, and digital infrastructure.
  • Expert-level knowledge of WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, HTML/CSS, and related frameworks.
  • Experience with Cloudflare, WP Engine, AWS, and CI/CD deployment workflows.
  • Experience with AI tools, XR platforms, and automation systems.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to balance hands-on problem-solving with long-term strategic planning.
