Job description

Application Requirements
U.S. applicants only.
  • 4-6 samples of multi-page or long-form content design (ebook, annual report, guide, publication, case study, etc.)
  • Include your desired rate in your cover letter

Applications without relevant samples and a rate will not be considered.
Position Overview
Quatrain Creative is seeking senior-level graphic designers for long-term freelance partnerships. This is a remote, per-project freelance opportunity with a primary focus on long-form content design, including ebooks, whitepapers, guides, and case studies, with occasional one-pagers or infographics.
This is a senior-level role that will be expected to produce client-ready work without support from a creative/art director. We will supply client brand guidelines (if available) and loose direction from the client.
Expert-level proficiency in Adobe InDesign (including layout features like styles, text wrap, parent pages, etc.) is required.
Reliability, proactive communication, and consistent adherence to deadlines are essential.
Please include samples of relevant design work (ebooks, annual reports, case studies, etc.) along with your full portfolio PDF or URL.
*Only applications that include a portfolio with relevant examples will be considered.
Due to cyclical hiring needs, this is a standing posting. While we review every application, we'll reach out as project needs arise.
The ideal candidate:
  • Has 5+ years of graphic design experience in a senior-level design role.
  • Has deep expertise in long-form content and layout design.
  • Has experience working directly with clients to develop design briefs and shape design direction.
  • Is quick, reliable, and able to develop highly polished, professional work without the aid of a creative director and with minimal rounds of revisions needed.
  • Has experience developing InDesign templates for multi-page documents, applying a strong mastery of layout design principles in setting up document grids, columns, typography styles, and hierarchy while successfully incorporating and elevating the client's brand.
  • Can expertly translate copy-heavy documents into visually engaging designs, independently identifying statistics and other information to highlight as infographics, sidebars, and callouts.
  • Ensures consistency throughout documents and produces work that is free of technical errors like ragged edges, odd line breaks, widows, orphans, etc.
  • Can work autonomously, seeking real-world examples to familiarize themselves with the client's brand and voice and produce compelling, on-brand work with engaging visuals.
  • Can deliver high-quality work on time, free of errors, and communicate closely with Quatrain leadership on projects.
  • Possesses excellent project management, time management, and communication skills.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior designers.
  • Available for quick turnaround projects.
  • Works primarily as a self-employed freelance designer - we are looking for a long-term working relationship with a designer who can become an integral part of our freelance team.
  • Experience designing for a B2B or C-suite audience.
  • Experience designing for clients in industries like tech, education, and finance.

This may not be a good fit if:
  • Your experience does not include long-form content design.
  • You're primarily focused on branding, UI/UX, packaging, or illustration.
  • You need the help of an art director or creative director to produce client-ready work.
  • You are not highly proficient in Adobe InDesign.
