What is a freelance video editor?

A freelance video editor is a professional who edits and assembles recorded footage into finished video projects on a contract or per-project basis, rather than as a full-time employee. Freelance video editors work with a variety of clients, such as filmmakers, businesses, content creators, and advertising agencies, to create commercials, social media videos, films, and more. They typically use editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, and may work remotely or on-site, depending on the project requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance video editor?

To thrive as a Freelance Video Editor, you need strong proficiency in video editing, storytelling, and knowledge of post-production workflows, often supported by a portfolio of completed projects. Expertise in industry-standard software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve, along with familiarity with motion graphics and color grading, is typically required. Excellent communication, time management, and adaptability set top freelancers apart, allowing them to meet diverse client needs and deadlines. These skills are crucial for delivering high-quality, creative content on schedule and building a strong client base in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges freelance video editors face when managing multiple client projects simultaneously?

Freelance video editors often juggle several projects at once, which can make time management and meeting tight deadlines challenging. Clear communication with clients about project scopes, feedback timelines, and revisions is crucial to avoid misunderstandings and last-minute changes. Additionally, staying organized with file management and using project tracking tools can help ensure smooth delivery and client satisfaction, while also maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Job description

Freelance Graphic Design Contractor

This is a freelance/independent contractor opportunity, not an employee position. The selected contractor will be engaged under a 1099 agreement and is not eligible for employee benefits.

BBB National Programs is looking for a freelance graphic design contractor to produce engaging, on-brand, on-strategy creative collateral across a variety of programs, content types, and audiences — including websites, marketing campaigns, social media, events, and more.

This is project-based independent contractor work and payment is made by project/assignment. The contractor determines their own working hours and methods, may take on other clients and projects concurrently, and supplies their own equipment and software licenses. The contractor is responsible for invoicing for completed work and for their own tax obligations (no tax withholding).

Scope of Work Includes:

• Collaborate with our Creative Director and Senior Designer to produce standardized annual reports, fillable PDF and PowerPoint templates, engaging marketing documents, eye-catching social media campaigns, and other digital collateral

• Participate in creative ideation and review sessions

• Maintain design consistency and brand compliance across all deliverables

• Work on existing files and create new ones, using consistent structural elements (parent pages, columns/guidelines, styles) and established brand asset libraries

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional design experience

• Familiarity with design techniques, critiques, and processes

• Understanding of visual elements, including layout, typography, and fonts

• Experience working within brand guidelines to execute designs and collateral

• Strong portfolio of work

• Excellent attention to detail

• Collaborative style — able to incorporate feedback, problem-solve creatively, and iterate on existing documents

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Illustrator

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
