Job description

Job Title: Transmission Line Engineer
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking a Transmission Line Engineer to support transmission and sub-transmission line projects from initial scoping through project closeout. This role will serve as the owner's engineer, working directly with utility clients to deliver engineering and design solutions that meet project requirements, industry standards, and client expectations.

The ideal candidate will have experience with transmission line design, project management, client coordination, and utility engineering standards. This position offers a hybrid work environment with opportunities for field support and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

Transmission Line Project Management

  • Scope projects using internal and client-based tools
  • Coordinate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle including:
    • Right-of-way
    • Environmental
    • Siting
    • Station engineering
    • Joint use/telecom
    • Distribution
    • Construction teams
  • Manage project scope, schedules, and execution activities
  • Support overall project delivery and client satisfaction

Transmission Line Design

  • Design transmission and sub-transmission lines using PLS-CADD
  • Develop load sheets and associated drawings for custom steel poles
  • Perform foundation design using MFAD
  • Create material lists for transmission and sub-transmission projects

Documentation & Engineering Standards

  • Prepare complete Issue for Construction (IFC) work packages
  • Perform quality reviews of engineering deliverables
  • Support development and improvement of engineering standards and procedures

Client & Team Collaboration

  • Coordinate directly with utility clients and project stakeholders
  • Maintain communication throughout all project phases
  • Support RFP development, technical specifications, and engineering documentation
  • Provide input on contracting strategies, technical solutions, and delivery methods
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers as needed

Construction & Field Support

  • Support construction activities, RFIs, and field coordination
  • Travel to project sites within Michigan as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering required
  • EIT preferred
  • PE license is a strong plus and may qualify for higher compensation
  • 4-10 years of transmission and sub-transmission line engineering experience required
  • Experience leading projects and coordinating cross-functional teams
  • Client-facing experience with strong communication skills
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD required
  • Experience with MFAD preferred
  • Understanding of NESC, ASCE, and ACI standards required
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work environment (office and remote flexibility)
  • Primarily office-based with occasional field/site work
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design documentation
