Job description

About the Role:
As a Design Engineer, you will provide leadership and technical expertise for complex projects, from initial research to the creation of
detailed drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs). You will be responsible for designing innovative solutions that meet customer
requirements, comply with industry standards, and address production challenges. This position requires frequent collaboration with
cross-functional teams to drive improvements in quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. At any given time, you will manage multiple projects, ensuring that timelines, quality standards, and customer specifications are met.
Your Responsibilities:
  • Custom Design: Develop and manage new design features to meet customer order specifications and production needs.
  • Engineering Standards: Apply established engineering practices to meet all relevant safety and regulatory requirements (ASME, DOT,
    FMVSS and others), ensuring compliance across all designs.
  • Vendor Interaction: Collaborate with internal purchasing agents as well as external vendors to ensure that materials and components
    meet the required standards for production, performance, fit, and finish.
  • Manufacturing Support: Provide ongoing support for the manufacturing team by troubleshooting design-related issues during
    production and identifying opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Materials Support: Collaborate closely with the materials team to identify potential material alternatives and implement strategies to
    minimize excess inventory and obsolete materials, optimizing resource utilization and reducing waste.
  • Process Improvements: Identify, document, and implement improvements in internal quality and production processes. Regularly seek
    ways to improve products, enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize materials usage.
  • Engineering Documentation: Review design documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and external
    standards. Lead efforts to support pilot runs and production validation.
  • Problem-Solving: Address and resolve issues related to product design, material quality, and production challenges, ensuring smooth
    fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Project Management: Balance multiple projects, ensuring effective management of design schedules, BOM accuracy, and timely
    implementation of engineering changes. Follow up on production issues and facilitate communication with purchasing to reduce
    potential material waste.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred Major: Engineering) with 0+ years of experience or
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing, with emphasis on automotive, heavy equipment, or trailer manufacturing.
    • Must be able to interact openly in a group setting in order to solve problems.
    • Comfortability with multi-tasking to support and drive multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience in SolidWorks.
    • Familiarity with the fundamentals of manufacturing processes.
    • Specific experience in Microsoft Excel.
