Job description

PURPOSE
Operates basic saw types such as pop-up, miter, web saws, etc. to cut planks, timbers, or boards according to work orders by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviews work order to determine cut(s) to be made.
  • Adjusts saw for required cuts.
  • Adjusts speed of saw and feed rolls.
  • Observes automatic feeding of lumber to saw or pushes end of lumber into feed rolls.
  • Stacks cut lumber after processing.
  • Advises supervisor of dull saw blades.
  • Other duties as assigned

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Language Skills - Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to read at tape measure at 1/16 inch.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Other Skills and Abilities - Must be able to identify species, size, and grade of lumber.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
