Consultant, Third Party Risk Management
Nationwide's Third Party Risk Management team, within Enterprise Risk, helps protect the organization by providing independent, data-informed oversight of third-party relationships. We partner across the enterprise to strengthen risk visibility, governance, and decision-making throughout the third-party lifecycle.
At the Consultant level, you will help advance a more mature, data-driven risk program. This person will be tasked to connect business, risk, and technology partners to bring critical third-party data into the enterprise data lake, improve data quality, and translate complex information into meaningful insights for leaders.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with business units to identify third-party data gaps and define the critical data elements needed for risk oversight, reporting, and analytics.
- Lead data gap and quality analyses; help resolve issues affecting completeness, availability, consistency, and reliability.
- Drive end-to-end work to acquire, validate, and support ingestion of third-party data into the production data lake.
- Collaborate on the migration from legacy data sources, prioritizing data needs and enabling future-state reporting and analytics.
- Develop dashboards, visualizations, metrics, and trend analyses that illuminate program health, emerging risks, and third-party concentrations.
- Convert complex data into clear, actionable insights that support proactive leadership decisions and risk mitigation.
- Serve as a trusted liaison among risk, business, data, and technology teams; influence partners to resolve dependencies and deliver shared outcomes.
- Establish business requirements, data definitions, control expectations, and governance practices for third-party risk information.
- Support continuous enhancement of executive reporting, key risk indicators, data lineage, and analytical capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Experience in third-party risk management, operational risk, enterprise risk, audit, compliance, data governance, business analytics, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving data requirements, data quality, reporting, process improvement, or technology implementation.
- Ability to analyze complex data, identify meaningful patterns and gaps, and communicate recommendations clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Technical proficiency in Python, SQL or relevant coding application
- Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships, influence without direct authority, and manage competing priorities in a large, matrixed organization.
- Experience with dashboards and data visualization tools, such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms, is preferred.
This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.
It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, OH. The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of One Nationwide Plaza, Columbus OH, 43215.
This position will be hired on a SuccessFlex basis. You will be required to come into the office, according to the department's current hybrid schedule.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Understands and assesses key business needs and responsible for developing the appropriate quantitative modeling solutions to these needs.
Collaborates with departments across the organization or business functions to accomplish strategic goals, objectives, and initiatives.
Builds risk analytic strategies for business problems through collaborating, consulting, and driving expectations.
Collaborates with teams across the enterprise to ensure that consistent model assumptions, processes and outputs are well understood and that modeling standard methodologies are upheld throughout the organization.
Crafts clear and concise summaries of findings and recommendations. Uses impactful storylines and data visualization geared to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Develops, tests, implements and administers complex quantitative modeling processes and tools.
Evaluates and ranks quantitative solutions to business problems.
Communicates the key benefits and limitations of sophisticated modeling tools for business applications.
Works across teams to ensure governance of modeling tools are applied consistently.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Risk/Actuarial leader.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, mathematics or related subject area required. Graduate-level studies in a related field with advanced degree highly desirable.
License/Certification/Designation: Progress toward FCAS, FSA, CQF, CFA or similar preferred.
Experience: Typically, seven or more years of related work experience in financial risk modeling or actuarial functions.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven knowledge of processes and functions spanning the insurance and risk management cycle. Understands machine learning, stochastic processes, Monte Carlo simulations, sampling methods and other statistical techniques applicable to specialized risk modeling. Confirmed mathematical knowledge of specialized risk models such as those used in hedging, economic scenario generation, catastrophe, credit risk, etc. Advanced understanding of risk management operations such as asset-liability management, portfolio risk assessment, hedging, etc. Strong communication and presentation skills. Advanced proficiency with Excel and Powerpoint.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
