Job description

We're seeking a Senior Technology Risk Consultant to support initiatives across the Enterprise AI & Engineering Platforms organization, and broader technology landscape, with a focus on modern technology platforms, cloud environments, and emerging capabilities such as Generative AI.
This role is designed for a technology-first risk professional, someone who is comfortable working across a wide range of platforms (infrastructure, applications, analytics, and AI), quickly understanding how systems are built, and evaluating risk in real-world implementations.
You will partner directly with engineers, architects, and product teams to assess risk, challenge decisions, and recommend practical control improvements. This is not a policy-heavy or governance-only role. Success in this position requires hands-on risk assessment experience and the ability to operate across diverse and evolving technology domains.
What You'll Do
  • Assess risk across modern technology environments, including cloud platforms, applications, analytics ecosystems, and emerging AI/GenAI capabilities.
  • Perform hands-on, end-to-end risk assessments, evaluating how systems are designed, implemented, and operated-identifying control gaps and recommending pragmatic mitigations.
  • Partner closely with engineering, architecture, and product teams to understand technical designs and influence outcomes with clear, actionable risk insights.
  • Evaluate a wide variety of platforms and use cases, demonstrating the ability to quickly ramp into new technologies and apply consistent risk assessment rigor.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-relevant risk perspectives for senior stakeholders.
  • Challenge assumptions and design decisions where appropriate, helping teams balance speed, innovation, and risk management.
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and emerging technology efforts, bringing a technology-aware risk lens to new and evolving capabilities.

What Sets This Role Apart
  • You will operate as a horizontal risk advisor, not tied to a single domain (e.g., not just data governance or model risk)
  • Exposure to a broad and evolving technology landscape, including cloud platforms, and AI
  • Opportunity to work directly with technical teams shaping real implementations

Qualifications
  • Typically 8+ years of experience in technology risk, cybersecurity, engineering, or a related technical field
  • Demonstrated experience performing hands-on risk assessments across diverse technology environments (e.g., cloud, infrastructure, applications, platforms, or AI/ML systems)
  • Strong ability to understand technical architectures and challenge design decisions
  • Experience working directly with engineers, architects, or technical product teams
  • Proven ability to operate across multiple domains and rapidly ramp up on new technologies
  • Consulting or advisory experience, with the ability to provide clear, actionable recommendations, not just identify issues

What Will Differentiate You
  • Background that blends technical depth with risk assessment experience (e.g., prior engineering, architecture, or security experience)
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), APIs, or distributed systems
  • Experience assessing emerging technologies (e.g., GenAI, machine learning platforms) in real-world implementations
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and flex across changing priorities

Sponsorship
Vanguard is not offering visa sponsorship for this position.
