Senior Cyber Risk Consultant - Financial Services | BISO & AI Governance Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cyber Risk Consultant to join a high-performing cybersecurity and technology risk team supporting a complex, highly regulated financial services environment. This role is ideal for a cybersecurity professional with deep expertise in cyber risk management, Business Information Security Office (BISO) operations, and emerging AI governance practices.

As a trusted advisor, you will work closely with technology, cybersecurity, and business leaders to assess cyber risks across new and existing technology initiatives, ensuring appropriate security controls, governance, and risk management practices are integrated throughout the project lifecycle. A significant focus of this role is supporting enterprise AI initiatives by evaluating the cybersecurity risks associated with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Generative AI technologies.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical cybersecurity knowledge with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills. You are comfortable partnering with both technical and non-technical teams, facilitating risk discussions, and providing practical, business-focused recommendations that enable innovation while maintaining a strong security posture.

This is an excellent opportunity to help shape cybersecurity governance within a rapidly evolving technology landscape while contributing to enterprise-wide AI adoption in one of the most highly regulated industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct cybersecurity risk assessments and technology reviews for new and existing technology initiatives.
  • Evaluate cybersecurity risks throughout the project lifecycle and provide practical risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Identify control gaps, assess residual risk, and recommend appropriate remediation strategies.
  • Perform cybersecurity control assessments using established industry frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or equivalent.
  • Evaluate cybersecurity risks across key security domains, including:
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Vulnerability Management
  • Cybersecurity Architecture
  • Network Security
  • Compliance
  • Security Metrics
  • Perform technology intake and toll gate reviews to ensure cybersecurity requirements are identified and addressed before initiatives progress.
  • Support Business Information Security Office (BISO) governance processes, including technology evaluations, intake request management, and operational workflow support.
  • Manage and prioritize technology evaluation requests while helping maintain efficient governance processes.
  • Participate in cybersecurity governance activities and enterprise technology risk initiatives.
AI Governance & Emerging Technologies
  • Support the organization's AI Center of Excellence (CoE) by performing cybersecurity risk assessments for AI, Machine Learning, Generative AI, and other emerging technologies.
  • Evaluate AI architectures, data flows, security controls, and associated cyber risk vectors.
  • Ensure AI initiatives align with enterprise cybersecurity standards, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to AI governance processes and help mature cybersecurity oversight for emerging technologies.
Third-Party & Vendor Risk
  • Assess third-party and vendor cybersecurity risks.
  • Identify security control requirements for external technology providers and recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures.
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Develop and maintain cybersecurity dashboards, metrics, reports, and executive-level management reporting.
  • Facilitate risk review sessions with technology teams, cybersecurity subject matter experts, and business stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate complex cybersecurity and technology risk concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships across cybersecurity, technology, business, and executive leadership teams.
Required Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will also be considered.
Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Cybersecurity Risk Management, Information Security, Technology Risk, or Cybersecurity Governance.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience working within Financial Services, Banking, Insurance, Brokerage, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience conducting cybersecurity risk assessments, technology reviews, and control assessments.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience identifying technology risks, evaluating cybersecurity controls, identifying control gaps, and recommending risk mitigation strategies.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience across multiple cybersecurity domains, including:
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Vulnerability Management
  • Cybersecurity Architecture
  • Network Security
  • Compliance
  • Security Metrics
  • Minimum 5 years of experience applying cybersecurity control frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or comparable industry standards.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience evaluating AI architectures, AI security risks, data protection considerations, and AI risk assessment methodologies.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience performing third-party or vendor cybersecurity risk assessments.
  • Minimum 3 years supporting Business Information Security Office (BISO), Technology Risk, Cyber Risk, Information Security Governance, or Enterprise Risk Management functions.
  • Minimum 3 years managing technology evaluation requests, cybersecurity intake processes, or governance workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently while delivering high-quality work within established timelines.
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity risk identification, control assessments, remediation planning, risk acceptance, issue management, and risk reporting.
