Role Description The Structural Steel Detail Checker is a full-time, on-site role based in Seguin, TX. This position is responsible for reviewing and verifying structural steel shop drawings and detailer work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design specifications, building codes, and project standards. Day-to-day tasks include cross-checking dimensions, connections, member sizes, and material specifications against contract drawings, models, and engineering calculations; identifying discrepancies; and documenting required corrections. The detail checker collaborates closely with detailers, engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve issues, clarify design intent, and ensure drawings are ready for fabrication and erection. The role also involves maintaining organized records of checked documents, tracking revisions, and supporting quality control processes to minimize rework and field problems.
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting structural steel fabrication and erection drawings, including details, sections, and connection types.
  • Experience checking steel shop drawings against design drawings, specifications, and relevant codes or standards (e.g., AISC practices).
  • Familiarity with CAD or detailing software (such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, SDS/2, or similar tools) and basic understanding of 2D/3D modeling workflows.
