What is a freelance security?

A Freelance Security job involves providing independent security services on a contract basis rather than working for a single employer. Freelance security professionals may offer services such as risk assessments, event security, cybersecurity consulting, or personal protection. They typically work with multiple clients, setting their own schedules and rates. This role requires strong expertise, relevant certifications, and the ability to adapt to different security needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in freelance security?

To thrive as a Freelance Security professional, you need a comprehensive understanding of security protocols, risk assessment, and incident response, usually backed by relevant experience or formal training in security services. Familiarity with surveillance equipment, two-way communication devices, and security management software, as well as certifications like CPP (Certified Protection Professional) or state security licenses, is often required. Excellent communication, situational awareness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help freelance security specialists stand out. These skills and qualifications ensure the safety of people and property, enable effective issue resolution, and help build trust with clients in dynamic environments.

What types of clients and assignments do freelance security professionals typically work with?

Freelance security professionals often work with a diverse range of clients, such as corporate offices, event organizers, private individuals, and small businesses. Assignments may include site patrols, access control, event security, risk assessments, or personal protection, depending on the client's needs. The nature of freelance work allows for flexible scheduling and control over the types of jobs accepted, but it also requires adaptability to different settings and client expectations. Networking and consistently delivering high-quality service can help build a strong reputation and lead to repeat business or long-term contracts.

Can freelance security offer job security?

Freelance security professionals typically do not have guaranteed job security, as their work depends on client demand and project availability. They often work on short-term contracts and need to continuously seek new opportunities, though building a strong reputation and specialized skills can improve stability over time.

Can you be a freelance security guard?

Yes, it is possible to work as a freelance security guard, often by contracting directly with clients or through security staffing agencies. Freelance security guards typically need relevant certifications, such as a security guard license, and may require skills in surveillance, access control, and emergency response. Regulations and licensing requirements vary by location and jurisdiction.

Is freelance security a good side hustle?

Freelance security involves providing security services on a flexible basis, often requiring certifications like security guard licenses and good observational skills. It can be a viable side hustle for those seeking additional income, especially if they have relevant experience and are available for irregular hours. However, income levels and demand vary by location and individual effort.

About the Opportunity

Raw Sugar Living is looking for a creative, results-driven freelance social media and community consultant to help grow brand awareness and engagement on TikTok and Instagram. This is a project-based opportunity for someone who combines strong creative instincts with platform expertise, community fluency, and a clear understanding of what drives performance.

You will partner with the Raw Sugar team to shape channel strategy, create and publish platform-native content, engage with our community, and translate performance into actionable recommendations. The engagement includes periodic on-site content capture in Los Angeles, scheduled by mutual agreement.

What You'll Do
  • Shape the Strategy: Recommend a social and community approach aligned with Raw Sugar's goals and audience priorities.
  • Create Content: Concept, capture, edit, and deliver or publish an agreed volume of platform-native short-form video and photo content.
  • Engage the Community: Monitor conversations and connect with followers using approved brand and escalation guidelines.
  • Turn Data into Action: Track performance through native platform analytics and Dash Social and provide practical recommendations for improvement.
  • Protect the Brand: Bring Raw Sugar's visual identity and voice to life while following approved legal and product-claim guidelines.
  • Collaborate: Participate in mutually scheduled creative reviews and on-site content sessions needed to complete agreed deliverables.
What We're Looking For
  • Demonstrated experience in social media, community building, and content creation; portfolio required.
  • Strong knowledge of TikTok and Instagram algorithms, trends, audience behavior, and platform best practices.
  • Proficiency in mobile photography and videography and relevant editing tools, such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, or Lightroom.
  • A self-directed working style and the ability to manage project timelines and deliver against an agreed scope.
  • Access to the equipment and software needed to create and edit high-quality content.
  • An established freelance or consulting practice offering comparable services to brands or other clients.
  • Experience supporting consumer brands, beauty, personal care, or lifestyle categories is preferred.
Engagement Details
  • Type: Freelance independent-contractor engagement for a defined project scope.
  • Scope and Term: Deliverables, milestones, approval requirements, and the project term will be documented in a statement of work. No minimum volume of work or ongoing engagement is guaranteed.
  • Location: Periodic on-site content capture in Los Angeles, scheduled by mutual agreement; other services may be performed remotely.
  • Working Style: You will determine how to complete the work, subject to agreed deliverables, deadlines, platform requirements, and Raw Sugar's brand, legal, confidentiality, and security standards.
  • Other Clients: You may provide services to other clients, provided there is no conflict of interest or breach of confidentiality.

This is a hybrid role requiring at least one day per week in the office.
