Job description

Overview
FWI is building a team to support the Naval Postgraduate School's (NPS) NPS Extended Campus (NEC) and Office of University Communications (OUC). OUC is the official source of all NPS public news and institutional communications, requiring expert science and technical writing talent to convey complex research and academic achievements to diverse audiences. This position will bridge technical subject matter expertise, professional journalism, and institutional storytelling to deliver compelling, accurate, and accessible communications across print, digital, and social media platforms. The Writer - Senior will draft news articles, feature stories, press releases, and multimedia scripts, translating complex military, scientific, and academic content into clear and engaging communications that advance the reputation and mission of NPS.

**Position is contingent upon contract award**
Work Schedule and Location:
On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA
Responsibilities
  • Draft news content for official NPS communications
  • Convert complex technical and scientific information into accessible articles and features for print and digital platforms
  • Prepare press releases, social media content, speeches, brochure copy, audio podcasts, blog posts, and video news scripts
  • Develop materials for NPS marketing and institutional communications
  • Adhere to public relations and journalism best practices

Qualifications
Required:
  • BA/BS degree in communications, journalism, English, or relevant discipline.
  • 3 years of experience in technical writing, proofreading, editing, publication, and quality assurance.

Desired:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience in technical and/or science writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research, write, and edit white papers, fact sheets, multimedia materials, web features, press releases, and newsletter articles.
