Freelance Rf Drive Test Engineer information

What is a freelance RF drive test engineer?

Freelance RF Drive Test Engineers are independent professionals who specialize in testing and optimizing the performance of wireless networks. They use specialized equipment to collect data on signal strength, coverage, and quality by driving through designated routes or walking in specific areas. Their findings help telecom companies identify network issues, improve coverage, and enhance user experience. Working as freelancers, they take on projects from various clients and may operate in different locations as needed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance RF drive test engineer?

To thrive as a Freelance RF Drive Test Engineer, you need a solid understanding of wireless communication principles, RF measurement techniques, and a relevant degree in telecommunications or electrical engineering. Familiarity with drive test tools such as TEMS, Nemo, or Agilent, as well as proficiency in data analysis software, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate findings clearly are important soft skills for this role. These skills ensure accurate network performance assessment, effective troubleshooting, and clear reporting, all of which are critical for optimizing wireless networks.

What are some common challenges faced by freelance RF drive test engineers and how can they be addressed?

Freelance RF Drive Test Engineers often encounter challenges such as managing variable project schedules, adapting to different client requirements, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of testing tools and technologies. To address these, it's important to develop strong organizational skills, stay proactive in communication with clients, and regularly invest time in learning about the latest RF equipment and software. Flexibility and a willingness to travel are also crucial, as projects may require work in diverse geographic locations or environments. Building a reliable network with other engineers and industry professionals can help secure steady work and provide support when facing technical or logistical issues.

What is the difference between Freelance Rf Drive Test Engineer vs Rf Network Optimization Engineer?

Job description

Our client company has been producing precision crystal filters for radar for over sixty years and designs and manufactures RF & microwave solutions for data timing and radio frequency spectrum control in high reliability and harsh environment applications. In aerospace and defense markets the company’s digitally tuned filters support secure communications in the presence of electromagnetic interference. Low drift, highly accurate oscillators provide reliable frequency lock for ground, vehicle, air and satellite communication as well as electronic countermeasures. Vibration and shock resistant crystal clocks sharpen radar images and help monitor commercial aircraft engine performance. For Internet communication, their very low noise and packet sync clocks help increase bandwidth and prevent data loss in cellular base stations, micro and femto cells and Wi-Fi access points. Millimeter wave filters ensure corporate and telecom point-to-point links stay error free. On the lab bench or consumer electronics production test floors, the company’s ultra-low noise frequency reference oscillators insure accurate measurements. When public safety is paramount, wide temperature range/waterproof cavity filters ensure reliable radio communication. Satellite links, phased array radars and anti-IED jammers use their RF power amplifiers to boost the signal to the antenna. The company is based in Central Florida with manufacturing in the United States and India and is vertically integrated with deep experience in basic material science, design and manufacturing. With AS9100 Rev C and ISO 9001:2008 certification the company provides sales and support worldwide and is a recognized service leader supporting innovation and reliability at major OEMs including Cisco, Raytheon, Ericsson, Harris, Rockwell Collins, UTC Aerospace and nearly 2,000 smaller clients through distribution partners.

The company has an immediate need for a Quality Manager in their central Orlando plant. US Citizenship is required.
