Job description

Remote Litigation Paralegal (Defense) – As-Needed / Project-Based
Compensation: $40–$50/hour

Location: Remote (Firm based in Los Angeles, CA)

Position Overview

A Los Angeles–based defense law firm is seeking an experienced Remote Litigation Paralegal to assist on an as-needed, project-based basis. This role will primarily support the firm with written discovery responses in California civil litigation matters. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, efficient, and well-versed in California discovery procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft and prepare responses to:

    • Form Interrogatories

    • Special Interrogatories

    • Requests for Production of Documents

    • Requests for Admissions

  • Organize, review, and analyze discovery materials and client documents

  • Coordinate with attorneys to incorporate legal strategy, objections, and revisions

  • Ensure discovery responses comply with California Code of Civil Procedure and applicable deadlines

  • Format, proofread, and finalize discovery responses for service

  • Manage discovery-related follow-ups as needed (supplements, verifications, exhibits)

Time Commitment
  • As-needed / project-based

  • Estimated 18–22 total hours per full set of discovery responses (Form Interrogatories, Special Interrogatories, RFPs, and RFAs combined)

  • No guaranteed weekly hours; workload will vary based on case needs

Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a litigation paralegal in a defense firm

  • Strong working knowledge of California civil discovery rules and procedures

  • Demonstrated experience drafting discovery responses independently

  • Excellent written communication, organization, and time management skills

  • Ability to work remotely and meet deadlines with minimal supervision

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and legal document formatting

Preferred (but Not Required)
  • Experience supporting insurance defense, general liability, or complex civil litigation

  • Familiarity with e-filing and electronic service in California courts

Compensation
  • Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience

  • Paid on a project or hourly basis

Work Environment
  • Fully remote
