Job description

We are currently looking for a Power Systems Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in protection and control system design, power system analysis, cost estimating, and bidding document preparation for commercial, industrial, generation and renewables. Typical system voltage levels range from 138 kV to 2.4kV. This position can be filled in any of our New York offices.
The Building Engineering Division at LaBella provides complete building engineering services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural engineering. Services range from feasibility studies and analysis through project design and construction. Our engineers are well versed in new construction, renovations, additions, analysis, special structures, and design/build projects for a variety of clients.

Duties
  • Design projects working directly with clients to develop project scope, identify problems, and propose solutions.
  • Typical requirements include Protection and Control drawings and documentations (relay one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, I/O lists, and relay settings, configuration files and etc), panel construction specifications (panel and interconnect wiring as well as panel layouts and elevations), and other supporting documentation.
  • Comfortable evaluating the interoperability, control features, and communication/protocol aspects of protective relays, RTU's, LTC Controllers, and other equipment as well as perform power system load flow studies, fault studies, relay setting coordination.
  • Aid in commissioning as needed pertaining to system startups and functional checks.

Requirements
  • A BS in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 5 or more years of experience in protection and control system design, cost estimating, and bidding document preparation for electrical transmission and distribution substations projects.
  • A PE license from a US State is desired but not required.
  • Successful track record designing Protection and Control Systems and performing power system studies.
  • Knowledge of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), NERC, NEC, NESC, NEMA, and ANSI standards are used in designing substation is critical.
  • Experience with telecommunications, protective relaying, and automation (SCADA) is required.
  • Interest in low voltage coordination and arc flash studies.
  • Familiarity with Schweitzer Engineering, General Electric and Basler equipment.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $135,000 per year
