Principal Storage and Data Protection Administrator

Overview

This role safeguards classified systems by ensuring storage and backup environments are secure, reliable, and meet the needs of engineering and program teams. The candidate will be the go‑to expert on storage hardware, networking, and enterprise backup tools such as NetBackup and Veeam.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead storage and data‑protection best practices across the program.
  • Serve as the primary SME for storage and backup technologies.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand requirements, optimize performance, and manage capacity.
  • Oversee daily backup operations, ensuring job completion, troubleshooting failures, and conducting quarterly recovery testing.
  • Maintain backup agreements, health checklists, and documentation to support audit and compliance activities.
  • Support system upgrades, hardware deployments, and continuous improvements in storage and data‑protection workflows.
  • Collaborate across architecture teams, engineering, network operations, vendors, and program leadership.
  • Provide technical mentorship and contribute to building team capability.
  • Participate in a 24×7 operational environment when required.
Qualifications
  • University degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree and 3 years of experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with enterprise storage and backup platforms (Veeam, Veritas, NetApp ONTAP, Dell).
  • Proficiency with Red Hat Linux and Windows operating systems (Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016–2022).
  • Experience implementing storage governance, data‑retention standards, and lifecycle management to control growth and optimize resources.
  • U.S. citizenship required; active DoD Secret clearance required on day 1.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain DoDD 8140 / 8570 certification (e.g., Security+ CE) within six months.
  • Strong knowledge of NetApp, Veritas, and Veeam platforms.
  • Experience in Agile Scrum environments.
  • Familiarity with NIST and RMF frameworks.
  • Background with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SCCM, and VMware (vCenter, vSphere, ESXi).
  • Experience with thin‑client technologies, Centrify, scripting, and distributed computing environments.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance preferred.
Salary Range

$86,800 USD – $165,200 USD.
