Job Summary:

The Welding Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, optimization, and continuous improvement of advanced welding systems and processes across manual, robotic, and collaborative robotic (cobot) manufacturing operations. This role serves as the technical authority for welding automation, programming, process control, metallurgy, weld quality, and production performance. The Welding Engineer works closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to develop robotic welding applications, integrate new technologies, troubleshoot complex welding challenges, and improve productivity while ensuring compliance with ASME and customer specifications. This position plays a key role in advancing automation strategies through the implementation of robotic welding cells, cobot applications, and data-driven process improvements.

Requirements

Key Technical Responsibilities

Robotic & Cobot Welding

  • Program, optimize, and troubleshoot robotic and collaborative robotic (cobot) welding systems.
  • Develop robotic weld paths, teach points, and welding sequences for new products.
  • Support integration of robotic platforms.
  • Evaluate opportunities for automation and robotic process deployment.
  • Lead commissioning and validation of new robotic welding cells and automated equipment.

Welding Process Engineering

  • Develop and qualify welding procedures (WPS/PQR).
  • Establish welding parameters for manual, semi-automatic, and robotic applications.
  • Optimize weld penetration, distortion control, deposition rates, and overall process stability.
  • Perform weld process capability studies and process validation.

Automation & Manufacturing Technology

  • Analyze production and weld quality data to drive continuous improvement.

Metallurgy & Quality

  • Investigate weld failures and metallurgical issues through root cause analysis.
  • Support NDE and destructive testing activities.
  • Develop corrective actions for quality concerns and recurring weld defects.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME Section IX and customer requirements.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 0-2 years of welding engineering experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with robotic welding programming and automation technologies.
  • Strong understanding of GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and stainless steel fabrication.
  • Knowledge of welding metallurgy and distortion control.
  • Experience with robotic process optimization, machine vision, seam tracking, or adaptive control systems.
  • CWI, CWE, or robotic programming certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours per day.

Occasional lifting, carrying, and maneuvering up to 50 pounds.ย 

Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and platforms for elevated work.

Walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, stooping, lie down inside or under vessel and twisting while performing required job tasks.

Comfortable in chemically Hazardous Situations.

Being mindful of chemical safety and use proper PPE when required.ย 

Ability to grasp welding torch while welding parts for brief periods to long periods of time.
