Freelance junior developers often work on smaller projects or provide support to more experienced developers, allowing them to gain practical experience while growing their technical expertise. Their responsibilities may include writing code, fixing bugs, deploying applications, and communicating with clients about project requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance junior full stack developer?

To excel as a Freelance Junior Full Stack Developer, you need solid knowledge of both front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back-end (e.g., Node.js, Python) technologies, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, version control systems like Git, and cloud platforms such as AWS, as well as a portfolio or GitHub profile, are typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, self-motivation, and effective communication help you manage client expectations and collaborate remotely. These combined skills enable you to deliver high-quality, full-cycle web solutions while building trust and maintaining successful client relationships.

  • Document application functionality, technical designs, and implementation details.
  • Support software deployments, application maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Learn and apply secure software development practices appropriate for federal software environments.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 0-3 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent internship/co-op experience.
  • Experience developing applications using .NET Core / ASP.NET Core.
  • Familiarity with one or more modern front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.js.
  • Basic understanding of C#, object-oriented programming principles, and software development best practices.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs.
  • Basic knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or similar database platforms.
  • Familiarity with Git version control.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and work in a collaborative Agile environment.
  • Must be available to work full-time onsite in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
  • U.S. Citizenship and an active Secret Clearance are required.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
