Freelance Intern information

What is a freelance intern?

A Freelance Intern is a student or recent graduate who gains practical work experience by taking on freelance assignments rather than working in a traditional internship setting. Unlike standard interns who may work for a single company, freelance interns work independently on projects for various clients or organizations. This arrangement allows them to build a diverse portfolio, develop a wide range of skills, and gain exposure to different industries. Freelance internships can often be remote and offer flexible schedules, making them a popular choice for those seeking hands-on experience while maintaining autonomy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Intern, you need foundational knowledge in your field of interest, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently, typically supported by relevant coursework or early professional experiences. Familiarity with common project management tools (like Trello or Asana), communication platforms (such as Slack), and proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace are typically expected. Proactive communication, adaptability, and self-motivation are standout soft skills for navigating remote or varied assignments. These skills and qualities are essential for managing diverse tasks, meeting deadlines, and building a positive reputation in a flexible work environment.

What are some common challenges freelance interns face, and how can they be addressed?

Freelance interns often navigate challenges such as managing multiple projects for different clients, maintaining clear communication with remote teams, and balancing their workload alongside learning new skills. Setting clear expectations at the start of each project and using project management tools can help keep tasks organized. Proactively reaching out for feedback and scheduling regular check-ins with supervisors also supports a successful internship experience and professional growth.

Job description

Marketing + Brand Intern

Paid Part-Time Internship | Los Angeles / Hybrid | $20–$25/hour

Join Our Team

The Beauty Koncierge is looking for a creative, driven, and highly organized Marketing + Brand Intern to join our growing team.

TBK is a beauty, wellness, and lifestyle platform and advisory built on the belief that beauty isn't a category. It's a standard. We work across brand strategy, creative direction, partnerships, content, curated experiences, and thoughtful brand building, helping founders and brands uncover what's already exceptional and bring their vision beautifully to life.

This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working closely with the founder and TBK team across marketing, content, brand partnerships, events, client projects, and special initiatives, with additional opportunities to support the TBK Foundation.

Role Overview

As a Marketing + Brand Intern, you'll support the day-to-day execution behind TBK and gain exposure to multiple sides of a growing founder-led business.

You'll contribute to real projects across marketing, social, partnerships, events, research, and brand building while gaining firsthand experience within the beauty, wellness, fashion, lifestyle, and luxury industries.

What You'll Work On
  • Marketing + Content – Assist with social media, content planning, research, email marketing, copy, imagery sourcing, and campaign execution.
  • Brand Partnerships + Outreach – Research brands, influencers, editors, retailers, collaborators, and potential partners; help build contact lists and support approved outreach and follow-up.
  • Events + Experiences – Support TBK Experiences through event research, invitations, guest lists, RSVPs, gifting, materials, logistics, and occasional on-site support.
  • Client + Brand Projects – Assist with research, organization, marketing initiatives, presentations, and special projects for TBK and select clients.
  • TBK Initiatives – Support The TBK Edit, The TBK Collective, and other growing areas of the business.
  • Foundation Support – Assist with select TBK Foundation initiatives, partnerships, events, and community-focused projects as they arise.
  • Founder + Team Support – Help with research, project trackers, organization, meeting preparation, scheduling, and other day-to-day needs that keep projects moving.

Ideal Candidate
  • Current college student, graduating senior, recent graduate, or someone early in their career
  • Some previous experience in marketing, social media, PR, events, partnerships, content, or a related area
  • Passionate about beauty, wellness, fashion, lifestyle, marketing, and brand building
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Creative with a strong eye for branding, content, and storytelling
  • Reliable, responsive, and able to follow through
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Resourceful and comfortable researching and working independently
  • Social media savvy with a strong understanding of Instagram, TikTok, and digital culture
  • Comfortable with Google Workspace and in Canva
  • Self-motivated, proactive, polished, and eager to learn
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with a small team

Relevant experience is required - whether through internships, part-time roles, freelance projects, student organizations, or hands-on coursework. We're looking for someone early in their career who already has a strong foundation and is excited to build on that experience through meaningful, real-world work.

Ideal For
  • Students or recent graduates studying marketing, communications, PR, business, fashion, media, or related fields
  • Aspiring marketers, brand builders, PR professionals, content creators, or entrepreneurs
  • Someone who loves beauty, wellness, fashion, lifestyle, and discovering what's next
  • Someone looking to build upon previous internship or project experience with more hands-on responsibility
  • A self-starter who wants to learn directly from a founder while contributing to a growing business

Position Details
  • Location: Los Angeles / Hybrid
  • Schedule: Approximately 8–10 hours per week to start
  • Compensation: $20–$25/hour, depending on experience
  • Timing: Fall 2026, with the opportunity to continue based on fit and business needs
  • College Credit: Available where applicable
  • Flexible schedule designed to work around school and other commitments

Some work can be completed remotely, but Los Angeles-based candidates are preferred for opportunities to support events, shoots, meetings, and other in-person projects.

Perks + Benefits
  • Hands-on experience across beauty, wellness, fashion, lifestyle, and luxury
  • Direct mentorship and experience working alongside the founder
  • Exposure to real TBK and client projects
  • Networking opportunities with brands, founders, creatives, and industry professionals
  • Opportunities to attend select industry events and activations
  • Portfolio and resume-building experience
  • Beauty and wellness product opportunities through select brand collaborations
  • Professional mentorship and career development
  • Potential for expanded freelance, part-time, or future opportunities with TBK
