Job description

The Director of Technical Design is responsible for ensuring that Brand quality fit, desired appearance, and quality construction standards are met and maintained. This position will lead a team of Technical Designers. Works closely with cross functional team to enhance and evolve processes and procedures as business evolves; broaden technical knowledge and expertise, while continually striving to elevate the quality of the product. Ensures brand integrity through consistency of fit, keeping the customer top of mind.
The Director of Technical design reports to the Sr. Director of Sourcing, Technical Design & Sustainability.
This is an onsite role working from our HQ in Miami, Florida. Relocation assistance is available.

  • Coach and develop team members by setting strategy and monitoring progress towards goals. 
  • Manage the Technical Design team members to enhance and evolve processes and procedures, as business evolves, while driving to elevate the quality of the product. 
  • Schedule and lead weekly fit sessions. Collaborate with designers and merchants to translate fit and aesthetic details. 
  • Direct a team that creates and maintains tech packs including garment construction, graded measurement charts, fit comments, and pattern corrections 
  • Provides technical direction, in collaboration with TD team members, design team, PD team and vendor on matters pertaining to specs, patterns, construction methods and techniques to improve fit, balance, and overall quality of the garment. 
  • Identify potential production, quality, costing issues and make appropriate recommendations while maintaining design and fit intent 
  • Maintains fit consistency and ensures standard grade rules are applied to each garment. 
  • Ensures Product Lifecycle Calendar dates are met for Development and Garment Fit Approvals. 
  • Anticipates and resolves any problems with the fit process. Partners with vendors in the resolution of problems as necessary. 
  • Attends weekly cross functional team meetings raising up any issues that pertain to vendor, quality, and/or timeline concerns. 
  • 10+ years of pattern making/block development, grading and technical design experience 
  • 8+ years of managing a Technical Design team 
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction standards and manufacturing process 
  • Extensive knowledge fit, balance, garment construction, fabrics, and fabric performance 
  • Experience required in development and use of blocks 
  • Detail oriented with ability to drive to completion with strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent time management skills 
  • Advanced knowledge of Web based applications, i.e. FLEX PLM or comparable software required 
  • Experience of 3D software a plus
