Department Summary
This is a grant-funded position in the Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology. The grant HOPE is a UNT Dallas program supported by a five-year (2022-2027) federal grant awarded from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA). This grant is focused on providing Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to a large audience of individuals so that they can recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness and identify resources available in the community. The trainer will coordinate and deliver the training programs to the target populations consistent with best practice.
Position Overview
Deliver the MHFA curriculum to the participants consistent with best practice and coordinate training logistics (training materials, registration).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Mental Health First Aid instructor certificate.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Proficiency to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data, and to prepare reports from such records.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work of others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the MHFA curriculum.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Excellent customer service skills, effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to complete tasks independently.
  • Responsible, reliable and punctual.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in sociology, psychology, public health, or any other related field.

Required License/Registration/Certifications
  • Mental Health First Aid instructor certificate.

Job Duties
  • Delivering the Mental Health First Aid curriculum to the participants.
  • Helping with training logistics such as scheduling sessions and registration of participants.
  • Promoting the training event in the community.
  • Collect participant data during the session.

Physical Requirements
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.
  • Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
