Job description

Seeking a Field Designer/Traveling Utility Tech that will report to our Boerne, Texas office. In this role, you will perform project related work in the utilities industry designing and planning power distribution facilities.
The preferred candidate will be familiar with the design and operation of utility electrical systems which they can apply their knowledge for developing new designs. However, no experience is necessary and will train.
This position will require 100% travel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The principal duties and responsibilities of the Field Designer/Traveling Utility Tech consists of, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Reviewing and transferring field design notes to project drawings and material lists.
  • Performing standard computation and analysis.
  • Creating plan and profile design drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Application of design standards and specifications for overhead and underground distribution projects for designing overhead and underground electric distribution projects.
  • Compilation of design packages for construction which includes data entry into various design and infrastructure management software applications such as NISC, NIS, Partner, Futura, and AeGIS to produce construction specifications and material lists.
  • Performing quality reviews of project deliverables.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
  • Preferred: a two-year technical certificate or degree
  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Preferred: General experience in the design, operation, construction, and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines (4 kV through 35 kV) and/or strong familiarity with construction processes; a two-year technical certificate or degree; exposure to utility Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
SKILLS:
  • Strong (effective) written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong skills of time management, organization and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to work in design teams, self-motivated to perform assigned tasks, and taking the initiative to learn the trade.
  • Strong computer skills, the ability to learn new software packages efficiently, and retain and apply on the job training. Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook is required.
  • Ability to use design software packages, and general construction knowledge and aptitude preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.
PHYSICAL:
  • This position requires the ability to listen and hear, good eyesight, sitting, and use of hands and arms.
