What is a freelance contractor?

Freelance contractors are self-employed professionals who offer their services to clients on a project or contract basis, rather than as permanent employees. They typically work independently, setting their own schedules and rates, and may take on multiple clients at once. Freelance contractors are responsible for managing their own taxes, benefits, and business expenses. This work arrangement allows for greater flexibility and autonomy, but also requires self-motivation and business management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance contractor?

To thrive as a Freelance Contractor, you need expertise in your service area, strong project management abilities, and a solid understanding of business fundamentals such as contracts and invoicing. Familiarity with industry-standard software (like project management tools, CRM platforms, and online payment systems) and, in some cases, relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, industry-specific credentials) are valuable. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help you build client relationships and consistently deliver quality work on schedule. These skills and qualities are critical for maintaining client trust, securing repeat business, and managing the varied demands of self-employment.

Both work independently, but Consultants often have specialized credentials and engage in advisory roles, whereas Contractors focus on task completion.

How do freelance contractors typically manage client communication and project expectations?

Freelance contractors often rely on clear, consistent communication to set and manage client expectations throughout a project. This usually involves regular check-ins via email, video calls, or project management tools to provide updates, clarify requirements, and address any concerns promptly. Creating detailed contracts or agreements before starting work helps outline deliverables, timelines, and payment terms, reducing the risk of misunderstandings. Adapting to different client communication styles and maintaining professionalism is key to building long-term relationships and securing repeat business.

Job description

We are looking for an ambitious and results-driven Digital Marketing Manager, Web & AI Search to join our growing team. This role, with a focus on owning Albert\'s web presence and search strategy across traditional and AI-powered channels, will play a key part in driving successful outcomes for Albert\'s most strategically important customers and internal initiatives.

If you’re passionate about cutting-edge technology and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, we want to hear from you.

What you\'ll do

Strategy & Delivery

  • Own the website as a growth channel — defining strategy, setting priorities, and driving the roadmap for organic and AI-powered search visibility across traditional and emerging platforms.
  • Develop and execute SEO and GEO/AEO strategies that improve Albert\'s discoverability in AI-generated search environments including ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini.
  • Define the organic pipeline contribution model — connecting web performance, search visibility, and conversion outcomes to measurable revenue impact.

Execution & Collaboration

  • Lead technical SEO initiatives including schema markup, internal linking, metadata, crawl optimization, and Core Web Vitals; ensure ongoing site health and performance.
  • Partner with content, product marketing, demand generation, and RevOps to develop high-performing organic growth programs and search-driven conversion paths.
  • Manage external agencies, developers, and freelancers to execute web and SEO workstreams efficiently; build scalable processes and digital best practices across the marketing organization.
  • Build reporting frameworks that surface organic performance, website engagement, and AI search visibility to leadership.

Leadership & Impact

  • Shape Albert\'s category leadership through content architecture, topical authority building, and a website experience that clearly communicates Albert\'s value to scientific and technical buyers.
  • Define digital best practices and scalable workflows that raise the capability floor of the broader marketing organization.
  • Operate as the internal authority on web strategy and AI search — advising cross-functional partners and leadership on how search and discovery are evolving.
You will have
  • 6–10+ years in digital marketing, GEO/SEO, growth marketing, or website strategy in B2B SaaS or technology companies.
  • Strong expertise in technical GEO/SEO, content GEO/SEO, and website optimization with a demonstrated track record of driving measurable organic growth and conversion improvement.
  • Experience owning or significantly influencing company website strategy in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Proficiency with GA4, Google Search Console, HubSpot, and modern analytics platforms.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms such as Webflow, WordPress, or headless CMS environments.
  • Experience with structured data/schema markup, semantic search, and AI-search optimization (GEO/AEO).
  • Proven ability to manage agencies, contractors, and external development resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to engage with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams and time zones.
Key Competencies

Systems Thinking: Ability to visualize how web, content, and search systems connect to drive meaningful business outcomes across the buyer journey.

Grit: Self-starter and persistent problem solver, relentless in the pursuit of measurable progress.

Innovator: Passionate about staying ahead of how AI is changing search and B2B discovery, and translating that into practical strategy.

Adaptability: Comfortable operating with ambiguity and limited resources in a dynamic, high-growth environment.

Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including product marketing, demand generation, and RevOps.

Leadership: Ability to lead initiatives and drive scalable, high-impact programs to completion with minimal oversight.
