DESCRIPTION:
Join our collaborative team at Thermo Fisher Scientific as a CNC Programmer Machinist, where you'll contribute to maintaining and optimizing manufacturing processes that enable scientific discoveries. You'll work with advanced equipment and technologies to ensure smooth operations while adhering to quality standards. This position offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise in supporting manufacturing operations through equipment maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and process improvement initiatives. You'll work with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues, implement engineering changes, and contribute to continuous improvement projects that enhance product quality and operational efficiency.

RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Applies Good Manufacturing Principles in all areas of responsibility.
•    Demonstrates and promotes the company vision.
•    Programming of computer numerically controlled production equipment. This programming will include items such as form, fill & seal tooling, sealing boards, filling templates, loading rings, etc.
•    Set up and operate our CNC vertical milling machine, CNC router as well as other machine shop equipment and hand tools necessary to manufacture components.
•    Perform in-process inspection and documentation of all manufactured components.
•    Coordinate projects or portions of projects efficiently and effectively between Tooling and the other groups in the Technical Services Department.  This includes all changes that affect packaging, tooling, materials, equipment and efficiency ratings.
•    Maintains CNC shop tools and equipment including CNC vertical milling machine, CNC router and related components.
•    Implement, maintain and properly utilize all Tooling related documentation and databases.
•    Accountable for maintaining a good working environment.
•    Use effective team-building practices to enhance group interactions.
•    Assist with the development and execution of departmental training and presentations.
•    Works closely with FCS Sourcing Group to keep inventory of all raw materials used in the manufacture of such components and takes necessary actions to preserve the inventory at a suitable level.
•    Reviews project instructions and blueprints to ascertain procedures, objectives, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as equipment or process redesign, substitution of materials or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
•    Document components that are to be fabricated.
•    Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for CNC operation.
•    Complete projects and tasks in alignment with departmental procedures and objectives.
•    Provide necessary research, analysis and justification for the approval of requisitions.
•    Prioritize and track daily workload, solve problems and facilitate issues related to individual responsibilities.  Work to achieve optimum efficiencies and delivery dates of the daily activities for the Tooling group.
•    Provide both formal and informal support for the members of the group.
•    Assisting with the development and execution of departmental training and presentations.
•    Perform daily responsibilities by completing each request in a suitable timeframe, offering the most optimal solution(s) to the current situation.
•    Provide the necessary attention and communication to internal and external customers, including support and follow up on a regular basis.
•    When required, participate in meetings with additional departments, customers and/or vendors.  Responsibilities may include developing agendas, organizing meetings and providing meeting minutes.
•    Achieve and maintain a working knowledge of departmental procedures and company SOP’s.
•    Assist in the revision or creation of department procedures, company SOP’s and any guidelines relating to part design, CNC and tool manufacturing activities.
•    Ensure that all information concerning project investigations, equipment discrepancies and relevant processes and capabilities are understood and documented.  Alert management and relevant departments of any inefficiencies or problems.
•    Achieve and maintain the necessary level of knowledge regarding current packaging processes, materials and information through communication with vendors, attending seminars and trade shows and subscribing to trade magazines and other publications.
•    Complete projects and initiatives under the direction of the department management.
•    Assist with the research and justification of new technologies and equipment.
•    Maintain and regularly submit a report detailing individual progress.
•    Understand, follow and emphasize safety and operational requirements as specified by each piece of equipment.
•    On call at managements request to assist in meeting customer project deadlines.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
•    Minimum 18 months experience using MasterCAM to create parts and generate CNC programs
•    Experience operating a CNC vertical machining center 
•    Experience with AutoCAD computer software
•    Experience with SolidWorks computer software
•    Experience with Microsoft office products (including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Outlook, and Microsoft Windows)
•    The ability to read, write, and complete basic mathematical calculations with a calculator
•    Good customer service skills
•    A good mechanical aptitude
•    The ability to work with minimum supervision
•    Above average responsibility
•    The ability to schedule multiple and varied projects to meet deadlines
•    Mastery of skills required to read, understand, and adhere to the SOPs and policies of a GMP environment.
