ARUP Laboratories, Department of Pathology, University of UtahSchool of Medicine

The Department of Pathology at the University of Utah School ofMedicine and ARUP Laboratories invites applications fromindividuals interested in building an academic career in ClinicalLaboratory Bioinformatics. We seek candidates with substantialexperience in computational and machine learning methods as appliedto clinical laboratory testing.

ARUP is a comprehensive, high-complexity national referencelaboratory serving a diverse clientele that includes more than halfof the nation's academic medical centers, children's hospitals,major commercial laboratories, military and government facilities,and community health systems. This broad reach has created one ofthe largest clinical laboratory data resources in the UnitedStates, spanning multiple disciplines, testing modalities, andpatient populations.

ARUP offers a unique environment for computational pathology andlaboratory data science, combining large-scale real-world clinicallaboratory datasets with substantial on-premises computinginfrastructure and expertise in bioinformatics, machine learning,and software development. The successful candidate will joinmultidisciplinary teams of pathologists, data scientists, andengineers developing, validating, and deploying new diagnostictechnologies that directly impact patient care.

Applicants should hold an MD, DO, MD/PhD, DO/PhD, PhD, orequivalent doctoral degree. Physician candidates should beboard-certified or board-eligible in anatomic and/or clinicalpathology by the American Board of Pathology and eligible formedical licensure in Utah. PhD candidates should be board-certifiedor board-eligible in a clinical laboratory specialty. AdditionalAmerican Board of Pathology fellowship training or subspecialtyexpertise will be viewed favorably, particularly inhematopathology, clinical informatics, molecular genetic pathology,and laboratory genetics and genomics. Current fellows and othertrainees who will complete training before the anticipated startdate are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will primarily focus on research within the Institute for Research and Innovation in Diagnostic andPrecision Medicine, advancing computational methods,bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and machine learningapplications in laboratory medicine. Access to ARUP's extensivelaboratory data resources, bioinformatics infrastructure, andcollaborative scientific environment provides exceptionalopportunities to develop and deploy clinically impactful diagnostictechnologies.

Clinical responsibilities are expected to comprise approximately30% effort and may include laboratory directorship, clinicalconsultation, and diagnostic case signout, aligned with thecandidate's training and expertise. The candidate will alsocontribute to the educational missions of ARUP Laboratories and theUniversity of Utah Department of Pathology through teaching,mentorship, and scholarly activity.
