How much do entry level ngs sequencing jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 5, 2026, the average yearly pay for entry level ngs sequencing in the United States is $45,046.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $37,000.00 and $50,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry Level NGS Sequencing Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level NGS Sequencing Technician, a background in molecular biology, genetics, or a related field with experience in laboratory techniques such as PCR and DNA extraction is essential. Familiarity with next-generation sequencing platforms (like Illumina or Ion Torrent), laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and possibly certification in laboratory safety are typically required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective teamwork make candidates stand out in this role. These skills ensure accurate sample processing, data reliability, and smooth workflow in high-throughput genomics laboratories.

What is the difference between Entry Level Ngs Sequencing vs Entry Level Molecular Biology Technician?

AspectEntry Level Ngs SequencingEntry Level Molecular Biology Technician
Required CredentialsTypically a Bachelor's in Biology, Genetics, or related field; familiarity with NGS platformsBachelor's in Biology, Molecular Biology, or related; basic lab skills
Work EnvironmentLaboratories performing genetic sequencing, often in biotech or research firmsResearch labs, hospitals, or biotech companies performing molecular experiments
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in genomics, personalized medicine, biotech researchUsed in clinical labs, research institutions, biotech companies

Entry Level Ngs Sequencing focuses on operating sequencing platforms and analyzing genetic data, while Entry Level Molecular Biology Technicians perform broader lab tasks like sample preparation and basic experiments. Both roles require a biology background but differ in technical specialization and daily responsibilities.

What are entry level NGS sequencing jobs?

Entry level NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) sequencing jobs are positions in laboratories or research settings that involve assisting with the preparation and operation of NGS technologies to sequence DNA or RNA. These roles typically require basic laboratory skills, knowledge of molecular biology techniques, and attention to detail. Common responsibilities include sample preparation, library construction, operating sequencing instruments, and data entry. These positions are ideal for recent graduates in biology, biotechnology, or related fields looking to gain hands-on experience in genomics and sequencing technologies.

What are some common challenges faced by entry-level NGS sequencing technicians, and how can they be addressed?

Entry-level NGS sequencing technicians often face challenges such as mastering complex laboratory protocols, troubleshooting instrument errors, and ensuring sample quality and integrity. It's important to develop strong attention to detail and effective communication skills to address these issues. Many labs offer structured training and mentorship programs, so new technicians are encouraged to ask questions and seek guidance from more experienced team members to build confidence and proficiency.
