Job description


The Senior Software Engineer acts as a recognized technical expert and a reference for complex software components. The Senior Software Engineer contributes through deep technical expertise, handson development, and technical guidance, without direct people management responsibilities. In this role, the individual will design and develop AP Suite software for reconstruction and analysis of Atom Probe Tomography (APT) data, while providing technical leadership for key components of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Provide architectural direction for key AP Suite components (reconstruction pipelines, data models, analysis workflows)
  • Act as a technical expert and reference for complex software components
  • Guide design decisions to ensure scalable and robust solutions

Software Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain Windows desktop applications for large 3D atom probe datasets
  • Build and enhance scientific analysis algorithms with a focus on accuracy, performance, and usability
  • Develop high-performance solutions using multithreading and efficient memory management

Sustaining Engineering & Optimization

  • Lead defect analysis, refactoring, and modernization of existing software
  • Drive performance improvements across algorithms and data pipelines

Collaboration & Support

  • Collaborate with scientists, service teams, customers, and third parties to deliver production-ready software
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and guidance to cross-functional teams
  • Mentor and guide other engineers as needed

Requirements

Education & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience with increasing responsibility
  • Experience working in collaborative development environments (source control, CI/CD, testing, documentation)
  • Strong experience developing Windows desktop applications

Technical Experience

  • Experience designing and maintaining complex Windows desktop applications using C#, C++, or similar languages
  • Strong background in .NET desktop development (WPF, MVVM) and data access (Entity Framework)
  • Familiarity with modern development practices (source control, Agile, Clean Code, continuous integration)
  • Experience developing or implementing 3D data analysis algorithms in scientific or engineering domains
  • Ability to build performance-critical, multithreaded applications handling large datasets
  • Experience designing user interfaces for technical or scientific users
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply complex domain knowledge
  • Experience owning components across releases and contributing to design and mentoring is a plus

  • Strong focus on quality and pride in delivering results
