Job description

Benefits And Leave Coordinator

Francis Marion University and the Department of Human Resources invite applications for a Benefits and Leave Coordinator who will assist with the creation of personnel records for new staff members; update the records of existing staff; have thorough knowledge of Employee Benefits programs and Leave programs; maintain records and reports associated with each program; understand the Fair Labor Standards Act as it pertains to compensation and classification; and provide professional technical assistance in the coordination of human resource programs in the HR department.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Associate Director of Human Resources-Employee Services with Leave and Benefits Programs, maintenance of staff records, and Worker's Compensation cases.
  • Provides the Associate Director of Human Resources-Administrative Services with the time, leave information necessary to run payroll and complete the required reports.
  • Maintains Time Records for all full-time non-exempt employees.
  • Conducts orientation to acquaint new staff with agency policies, procedures, and regulations concerning Benefits and Leave.
  • Describes insurance and retirement benefits, and other benefits as available, to new and existing employees.
  • Discusses eligibility for insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
  • Ensures that staff are enrolled in his/her selected programs.
  • Assist staff in using websites provided by the Public Employee Benefits Administration.
  • Consults with supervisors to ensure that adequate records are maintained for hours worked, and leave used. Provides this information to other HR staff as required.
  • Reviews staff leave records with the employee and supervisor, as needed.
  • Coordinates with supervisor, employee, and HR staff, if necessary, when situations requiring extended leave arise (e.g., FMLA).
  • Coordinates with supervisor and staff member--and HR staff, if necessary—when abuse of leave is suspected.
  • Assists in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.

Required:

  • Knowledge of Human Resources principles (i.e., hiring, good employee relations, disciplinary practices, end of employment).
  • Ability to quickly acquire working knowledge of federal laws and state regulations affecting human resources (FMLA, FLSA, ACA).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and 365.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to analyze needs and to recommend and communicate solutions effectively.
  • Bachelor's Degree in any field and experience in Human Resources.

Or

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources.

Preference:

  • Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning software system (e.g. Colleague, Banner, Oracle).
