Fractional Strategy information

What is a fractional strategy professional?

A Fractional Strategy professional is an experienced strategist who works with organizations on a part-time, contract, or project basis to help shape and execute business strategies. Instead of hiring a full-time Chief Strategy Officer or similar executive, companies engage fractional strategists to access high-level expertise and insights without the long-term commitment or cost of a full-time hire. These professionals typically support leadership teams with strategic planning, market analysis, growth initiatives, and organizational change. The arrangement offers flexibility and tailored support, particularly for startups or small to mid-sized businesses.

How does a fractional strategy consultant typically integrate with client teams, and what collaboration challenges might arise?

As a Fractional Strategy consultant, you will often work with executive teams and department leads on a part-time or project basis. Integration usually involves quickly assessing the organization's current strategic landscape, aligning with key stakeholders, and facilitating workshops or planning sessions. A common challenge is building trust and rapport in a short timeframe, as well as adapting to each client's unique culture and processes. Successful consultants are proactive communicators and flexible collaborators, ensuring they deliver value while navigating varying expectations and team dynamics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fractional strategy consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fractional Strategy Consultant, you need a solid background in strategic planning, business analysis, and industry-specific expertise, often supported by an MBA or similar advanced degree. Familiarity with tools like SWOT analysis, financial modeling software, and project management platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for aligning with diverse client needs and driving actionable results. These skills enable consultants to deliver high-impact strategies efficiently, providing valuable guidance to organizations on a flexible, part-time basis.

Job description

Join Us in Building the Future of Human Performance
At Viction, we're not building another health app - we're building a new category of human performance technology.
Our mission is to empower people to better understand themselves and continuously improve every aspect of their health and performance through scientifically grounded insights, intelligent coaching, and beautifully designed technology.
We believe sophisticated health science should feel simple, actionable, and inspiring. By combining biomarkers, wearable technologies, nutrition, recovery, behavioral science, and artificial intelligence into a unified platform, Viction will help individuals make better daily performance-based decisions, ultimately allowing them to realize their full potential.
We're seeking an experienced product leader who is energized by the opportunity to help define an entirely new category of human performance technology. This is a rare opportunity to shape not only a product, but the direction of a company.
The Opportunity
Product Strategy and Design are inseparable at Viction. As our Fractional Director of Product Strategy & Design, you will serve as the steward of our product vision, translating strategy into execution while ensuring every feature contributes to a cohesive, differentiated, and compelling member experience.
This is a founding product leadership opportunity. You'll work directly with our founders, advisory board, UX/UI designers, engineers, AI specialists, and domain experts to determine what we build, why we build it, and how we deliver an experience that members genuinely love.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
What You'll Own
  • What problems deserve solving

  • Which features matter most

  • Which features should wait

  • How features reinforce one another

  • What creates lasting competitive differentiation

  • What gets built, and why it gets built

  • Feature priorities, technical and business dependencies, and product sequencing

  • Release planning

  • Protection of MVP discipline while guiding long-term platform evolution

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead product strategy and evolve the long-term product vision

  • Translate strategy into product roadmaps, epics, user stories, and development plans

  • Lead product discovery, customer research, and journey mapping

  • Guide UX/UI direction to create a premium consumer-grade experience

  • Own the end-to-end member experience across onboarding, AI coaching, scoring, education, engagement, and retention

  • Partner across engineering, design, AI, clinical, marketing, and leadership teams

  • Champion a scalable design system and exceptional product quality

  • Continuously validate assumptions through customer feedback and analytics

  • Monitor emerging trends in AI, digital health, wearables, and human performance

Education & Experience
Who You Are
  • An experienced product leader with a passion for building consumer products

  • Equally comfortable discussing customer psychology, UX, AI, engineering trade-offs, and business strategy

  • A systems thinker who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys creating clarity

  • A collaborative leader who inspires teams without relying on formal authority

  • Someone who believes every feature should have a purpose and every interaction should build trust

Preferred Experience
  • Consumer mobile applications

  • Digital health, wellness, or human performance

  • AI-enabled products

  • Wearables and connected devices

  • Subscription platforms

  • Behavior-change or coaching products

  • Startup or early-stage company experience

Certifications
  • Industry related certifications are a plus

Other (Travel, Work Environment, DoD 8570 Requirements, Administrative Notes, etc.)
Work Arrangement: 100% Remote, fractional engagement (~20 hours per week)
What Success Looks Like
  • Build the right product, not simply adding more features

  • Create a product experience that feels premium, intuitive, and motivating

  • Translate vision into disciplined execution

  • Help position Viction as a category leader in human performance

Why Join Viction?
This is an opportunity to influence the direction of a company from its earliest stages. You'll have meaningful experiences, direct access to founders, the ability to shape product strategy and experience, and the satisfaction of helping build technology that can genuinely improve people's lives.
If you're energized by creating products that blend science, design, technology, and human behavior, and want to leave your fingerprint on something extraordinary, we'd love to meet you.
$125 - $175 an hour
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity. The posted range is appropriate for a typical candidate meeting, at a minimum, all the core requirements of the position.
